Advice for a newbie please :)

Ahh yes, Thomann. This should probably go in pet hates or somewhere, but...

If you give them a mobile number, they'll send you a text as your stuff leaves the warehouse. Great you say; not if it is 05:18 on a morning when you don't need to be up, and your phone is next to your ear on the bed-side table! :)

What time do those clowns start work? That was 04:18 in Germany! They need to get a life...

Check the sort of plugs that your equipment comes with first, before you buy converters if going the Thomann route. I bought a load of LED pars and a fogger and schuko to UK adaptors Clicky and they didn't fit as the adaptors were for the flat type plugs and everything came with the fatter round body types. I'd heard that CPC did the same type of screw down ones for the rounded plugs but was unable to find them, and the travel adaptors are not really suitable/sturdy enough in my opinion.

NO, horrible things, I've given reasons why here (though if you must buy one, you can get it much cheaper along with the lights from Thomman, it's the same thing). I'm not really able to suggest an alternative. Still thinking about it myself.

EDIT: I notice your link says it's a 96 channel controller. However 12 scanners @ 16 channel each (as it says) would be 192. Somebody gave me one to try when I told them how crap mine was. Even the instruction booklet is the same.

If I undestand your answer correctly I'm assuming I would need a couple of these, one for each t bar

http://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_netz_v...kabel_4fach.htm

and then put a 3 pin plug or adaptor on the single end and plug each of the lights into the orange schuko ends?

Ideal, at the price pretty much the same cost as any other solution without the pain of wiring on IEC plugs :-)

6 off of these for can to can on the bars:

These are actually mic cables which is generally deplored for DMX use but on these short hops should be fine.

Your choice of 2 off lengths for control to stand and then stand to stand:

and of course 1 off of these:

Still left looking for a decent low cost control solution, anyone mentioned laptop yet?

Thanks for the wrap up there matey - the controller does seem to be a point of concern though and as I do have a decent laptop I'd be interested in finding out I can make better use of this. I'm assuming some kind of interface and software? Any pointers chaps?

Decent laptop isn`t neccesarily what you want, a second user example which wouldn`t cause tears should it start drinking beer might be better ;-)

The wiki has quite a list of usb>DMX dongles from well below 100 pounds and software from free.

There`s numerous threads discussing the pros and cons try `usb DMX` in the search box.
