many moons ago I had an adaptor that allowed you to plug 2 lamps into a single battern holder, complete with a pull cord that acted as a selector switch,it was actually designed so you could switch between a light or a domestic appliance pluged in through an adaptor, anyway im after such a beasty and cant find anything suitable and was wondering if anyone knew were I could find/scrounge such a thing?

why do I need such a thing ?erm I want to put a u.v lamp in the bog to confuse/entertain people :stagecrew:

You can't get them any more because they are illegal, I believe. (you're not supposed to power 13A items from domestic lighting circuits).

In days of yore, Power electricity cost more than lighting electricity, so, people used off standard adaptors to get round the charge. But with the advent of steel tables (anderson/morrison shelters WWII ) a leaky appliance would reduce the labour force by one as there was no earth/cpc.

Dont try to use one as by todays standards they are unacceptable.

You may find a BC cable plug in an old scrap box to make something up but two core?

Try getting a low energy lamp and a low energy UV lamp then remember the weight.

thanks for your concerns chaps, I'm fully aware of the saftey aspect of using such a device(spent sevral years wiring anything from caravans to factorys) its just rewireing the bog to install an extra battern holder and another pull cord is out of the question, flat roof no acsess ect, think I'll have to adapt a twin florry fitting, problem is finding a suitable 2 way pull cord(with a hydroscopic cord) small enough to fit inside the fitting.

To check for dandruff?

To confuse the local heroin users? (seriously - the lights in our public toilets are dark blue for this exact reason)

You're the second venue I've either heard of or visited which adopts this approach to discouraging heroin use in the public toilets. The loos near the stage door of the Bloomsbury (on the UCL campus in London) have blue florrie tubes in them, and when I mentioned it to the tech manager that's precisely the explanation he gave.

Was that Gus then?

(The Bloomsbury being one of my old stomping grounds)

The other problem with the Bloomsbury Loos was they reportedly became publicised on the net as a cottaging venue. They became very popular for a while and ended up being closed for an extended period.
