It could be argued that the lighting designer is striving for metaphor – I want this light to look like the moon – but is constantly hampered by metonymy;that is, I will take this version of moonlight that I think El Greco sees and present it as the moonlight in Hamlet. Stop thinking about what the kit does and think about what the light is. Use movers, use a desk lamp..set fire to an old tyre...it doesn't really matter. Just a thought.
