Jram
...performing something that was written in house, no copyrighted material whatsoever was used... My understanding is that whoever wrote it in house owns the copyright automatically, unless they were paid to write it in which case whoever paid for it to be written owns copyright. As soon as you write something, you own the copyright to it. There are ways to officially register copyright, but even if you don't then you still own the copyright to your work. Slogans and catchphrases and the like are considered too short to be copyrighted, but they can be trademarked instead.

When we said we understood and complied with copyright laws we did mean that we understood and complied with copyright laws.MossyWhat we did was have 5 cameras, including a person on stage holding a camera for close up shotsYes they were well aware we were filming but didn't voice any oibjections until they saw themself on the DVD and realised just how bad they actually were (direct reflection on how much effort they had put into rehearsal)MossyHmm, it seems pretty off to me to not tell them before the performance that they're going to be filmed - if you turn up and find cameras all over the venue, what can you do other than not go onstage if you don't want to be filmed? As for getting the definitive legal position, great as the blue room is you won't get that on ANY internet forum, you need proper legal advice in that case!Hmm, it seems pretty off to me that you would post such an inane comment. If you had bothered to read the whole post (in particular the third posting to this thread) you would have read that we honestly thought we had asked everyone involved, and given this was our third year and the two previous years had also been filmed and the moaner was in the previous years performances and had been given complimentary copies of the DVD's what else could we do.Mossy

Mossy
Moderation: Guys, cool it..................don't make us let them loose :D :lock: Apologies Brian It just winds me up when I post a specific question and even go as far as to mention in the original post that all I want is an answer to the specific question asked that people start posting anything but answers and start questioning everything else that is totally irrelevent. Maybe it's just me but if I can't answer the specific question asked I don't reply to a thread Mossy
