Laptop Hum

Hi

I've included this in another topic but as a foot note and wondered if anyone can help?

I've not engineered for a few years and on my return want to plug my laptop in to the mixing desk. There's what sounds like a ground loop hum on the desk when I do this.

Should a DI fix this and if so does it matter if it's active or passive? (I guess they all have ground lift?)

Cheers

Mark

Short answer - you need a transformer, or a DI with ground lift.

Long answer - see here, and various other similar threads.

Moderation: Thread closed - please direct followups to the one referenced above - if we keep all of this stuff in one place, it makes it easier to search in future.
