Jamie Everington
Hi, We are doing a performance and I am looking to make a drop box so we can drop feathers etc from the grid. Does anyone have a step by step guide for making one, know how to make one, or where I can buy one from? Thanks Jamie
themadhippy
one method is a the top of a swing bin,use a pin from a pin hinge to keep it shut, bit of string tied around the pin and taken off stage via a few small pulleys, pull out the pin and the bin swings open thanks to gravity
bruce
Click the search button - not the google one, the one at the top. search for "snow bag" (with the quotes!) and uncheck the "this forum only" box.
Suzette
Make a simple wooden box with a hinged lid. Where you would normally put the catch add a pin hinge. Turn the box upside down, pull out the pin and the lid drops!Several ways to fix to a bar - you could bolt a couple of hookclamps to the botom of the box. or just drill some holes and thread safety bonds through them. Attach a length of cord to the pin, run it off to the end of the bar through a pulley, pull the cord and the pin comes out and lid opens.Best way to make sure the pin doesn't get stuck is to use a Triple E pin hinge and a standard loop hinge pin. The Triple E holes for the pin are just slightly larger than the old style so using a thinner pin means your "drop" shoud always happen
gyro_gearloose
Also, bear in mind that if you build a wooden box the weight of the lid dropping open may make the box swing about depending on hows its rigged. If this will be a problem for you, a lightweight plastic bin like hippy suggested may be a better option.
The Boogie Man
I've seen types of roller blinds used for dropping confetti type papers and stuff. Not certain how they were rigged but the rolling opening allowed for a loger sustained drop.baz
