Ella
Anyone know what poly-e-styrene is? (very possibly wrong spelling) Apparently a finer type of polystyrene that comes in pink or blue mostly, good for modelling stone walls etc. Also any info on where to get it would be v helpful! Thanks
AndrewR
Um... Styrene? Possibly as in non-expanded polystyrene? Have you checked your local modeling shops? If they dont have it they will probably know where to find it... HTH

mark_s
I think I know what he means, but I can't remember the name of it. It's like a very dense sort of polystyrene which you can sand/file to shape. I've used it in school years ago to form the floats for our Techno Games swimming robots, but the name escapes me :)
musht
Possibly E Polystyrene,E for Extruded rather than bead type expanded, aka Styrofoam blue and pink are colours common in building industry for wall and floor insulation panels, http://www.favonius.com/soaring/foams/foams.htm http://www.barrule.com/Workshop/images/info/foams/index.htm Expanded polystyrene, if you get it in suitable fire retardent grade and coated with Foamcoat or similar , makes a decent rock or brick wall. Difference in cost: http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?...s=1194230557708 Jablite 50mm 1200 X 450mm Expanded poly £2.76 Knauf 52.5mm 1200 X 500mm Extruded poly £16.98 Thats fairly HD insulation against low grade insul board, other builders merchants might be bit more competitive Foamcoat , costs loads but means stuff dosent distintegrate with finger impressions all over it: http://www.flints.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Rosco_Foamcoat.html Jesmonite http://www.flints.co.uk/acatalog/Glass_Fib..._Jesmonite.html
Wuddy
What are you wanting to model? Have you thought about builders expanding foam, you can squirt it into all sorts of receptacles, plastic buckets, sandwhich boxes, plastic bags etc a large can will expand to just about fill a dustbin, then when it sets you can shape it with basic DIY tools. EDIT; if it is stone walls you are looking for, make contact with Pinewood Studios Vac-form workshop and get a copy of their catalogue, they can supply a whole range of 8 x 4 vac-form sheets of walls , doors, windows, etc, etc. They are very helpful and the prices are reasonable
