Jon T
If you go to www.claypaky.it ...and on the homepage click on the 'alpha profile 1200' video your see some very interesting content. The video was pointed out to me by Mark Jones, and needless to say I was amazed the video was created with only 5 lights using shutter blades!! Please watch ... ocfe
Wow!! Any ideas how long that took to program?!
Shez
Any ideas how long that took to program?! More time than I've ever had available to program an entire show...
Jon T
Not sure on time, but for any of you interested it was done on a GrandMA,Mark Jones would be able to tell you more, he is on the forum now and again! Jon
Ynot
Excellent!! <_< Gives new meaning to a shape generator!
niclights
Stunning indeed. From a programming perspective some parts were probably relatively easy, especially with the right tools. But equally, some look like they needed quite complex chase/delay/attribute timing.I would be most interested in whether it was programmed to be operated live in time to the music for the final video since that would be so much more difficult than editing a straight time-coded sequence. Beautiful and impressive work either way <_< (not bad lights either :) )
tokm
Reminds me of something I saw at PLASA this year.. oddly enough at the CP stand. Wonder why <_< Looks good, great for light shows. As others have said, I'd doubt anyone would have enough time available to actually use an effect like this in a theatre show/gig etc. Shame, but plenty of other good tricks in the bag if you know what you doing. Jamtastic3
Trually awsome. I'm speechless really! Loved the waving coloured rectangles around 2:00 and then the triangle sequence around 2:15.
andylights
Really lovely.... It reminded me of some animated title sequences, from some films in the 1960-70. Mainly the work of Saul Bass -colour blocks, geometric shapes, a bit of abstraction. Andy
msearancke
I'd doubt anyone would have enough time available to actually use an effect like this in a theatre show/gig etc. Check out "Billy Elliot" some time. The end of the first act is almost continuous shutter movements using VL3500s I believe. Martin
paulears
...... and when bright video projectors become available at a lower price point, we can knock the visuals up in far less time and project them? I'm obviously the only person not that excited by this! Nice effect, can't say I went wow, though!
Ynot
I'm obviously the only person not that excited by this! Nice effect, can't say I went wow, though!I was impressed, though more with the fact that it was constructed from 5 single lanterns, rather than a composite video production. Yes, this would be MUCH easier to get using video techniques, but I would say that as a demonstration of the type of accuracy available from these fixtures it is a smashing piece of programming. Is it something I'd ever think of replicating in any way? I doubt it.Is there some element that piqued my curiosity? Possibly. I may in the dark distant future recall that video and think "Hmm... - maybe I could try something like that small section in this bit of my show". It's obviously a demo of what ultimately can be done with the lanterns, but not what many people would expect to actually do.Yes?
tokm
Check out "Billy Elliot" some time. The end of the first act is almost continuous shutter movements using VL3500s I believeYes but come on, west end shows are a different set of circumstances, they have silly amounts of time to program the show... Most shows have nowhere near that amount of time.. As I'm sure you know. As others have said, better to just knock up something even better looking and use projectors.. It's obviously a demo of what ultimately can be done with the lanterns, but not what many people would expect to actually do.Yes?Yes <_< Tom
niclights
Exactly. It just neatly demonstrates the fixtures capability, notably the blades which I'm sure are intended to be used in conventional ways for the most part.
