I want to start using music videos in my show .

A friend of mine has given me a some music videos in MPEG format.

But they do not play in windows media player.

It says I need a codec to play them. Any idea how I can find out what type of encrytion is used on these videos and find out what codec I need ??

I would ask my friend but he s gone back packing in austraillia for 6 month ???

Help

Thanks

Do you have the rights and licence to play the music videos, which IIRC are covered by a different licence to audio tracks and hence are not covered by your PRS licence.

HI , Tried all suggstions above and not a sausage ?

All programmes say cant play supported files etc ???

Wat do I do ??

Seems strange. Have you tried Gspot - If you have post the results or a screenshot and maybe myself or someone can help you.

Also if they do not work in VLC or MPC then I would suspect something is wrong with the files.

other than that try converting them. Winavi is a quick program to do that for you (though there are loads of others). It has solved similar problems for me in the past...

Try opening them in Power DVD or a similar windows DVD player. The only (standard) .mpg file that windows can't handle out of the box is MPEG2 as it needs a decoder licence, normally included with the DVD players. VLC will play some MPEG2 files but not others. If it doesn't work in any of those I would guess the file is corrupt.

Normal .mpg files can't carry a DRM component, they'd have a different extension if they had any form of encryption on.
