Andy! Posted February 8, 2004 Posted February 8, 2004 I dont know if any of you have heard of Global Rock Challenge well its a dance challenge thing and I was wondering if there was anyone here who works on the tech team with it? or know anyone that is? thanks
Stu Posted February 8, 2004 Posted February 8, 2004 Well Rock Challenge doesn't have a crew as such. Basically as far as I understand it, you submit your piece (once having performed it at your school) and you go to a regional final. This regional final will then be crewed by whoever the in house Techs are, to your guidance. However it's likely you'll just find a 4-6 colour wash, some specials, gobo wash etc and you just have to say what you want, and when you want it. Ditto the Followspots. If you win this you go to area final, and same again happens. So basically the crew depends on the house, but obviously your school will take Stage and LX 'crew' to basically say what they want, when they need it etc Stu
Andy! Posted February 8, 2004 Author Posted February 8, 2004 Yeh because I am doing the lights for ours this year at st albans arena. I hope there are some good specials there.
misterbassman Posted February 8, 2004 Posted February 8, 2004 I helped out with the lighting on a rock challenge down south a few years ago, all us students got to do was instruct the bloke sitting at the fat frog wot to do with his 50 odd PARS, that was it, oh and we brought on some UV's for the UV reactive costumes ** laughs out loud **. and there was a hazer on stage on the whole time,
DanielArkley Posted February 8, 2004 Posted February 8, 2004 I must have been lucky, but my school has been to Portsmouth Guildhall x2 (Team A heat in 2002, and Team B final in 2002), Croydon (Team B heat in 2002, only team in 2003), and the BIC (only team final in 2003). On all occassions at Portsmouth and Croydon, we did the follow spotting ourselves. However, during the Southern Finals in 2003, at the BIC, a certain member of the BR mod team did followspotting. He knows who he is And now, I am timing how long it takes to.... Guess the Follow Spotter! with me, Dan the Man in the ice cream van... Sorry, couldn't resist ;)
techwsussex Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 The Rock Challenge does have a tech team, last time I spoke to anyone, the producer/production manager was called juno, the stage manager was and another useful person to talk is John. They are all really friendly people and really helpful, equally I did rocka as local crew and as crew for the teams, so ask any questions you like and I can probably answer. Usually, teams cannot followspot themselves, and the LD has access to 2 followspots, for which you can call pick ups, and each LD gives a cue list to the op, and then calls cues during the performance. Its not real lighting design, but you should have RGB washes and then independent RGB on the cyc, as well as 201 washes and some warm wash aswell. Specials are dependent on the venue, and cant be repositioned, but u can usually have DSL, DSC and DSR. You can get more from the lx teams by knowing exactly what you want and what your talking about (DSL rather 'the front on the right' etc.) Owen JonesLakeside Theatre PS tel.02380 617729 for the RC office, ask for Juno
