sam.henderson Posted February 7, 2004 Posted February 7, 2004 Hi, Sorry if I'm dragging up old stuff but I have just got a new laptop!! I do a bit of everything in the theatre but mostly Stage Management and Lighting.I don't do sound. I want to create a 'perfect' laptop with all the right software so please could you all submit any useful software you use in the theatre (including offline editors etc), where it comes from and roughly how much it is. I especially need the name of some Stage Management software. I have not been able to find this sort anywhere. Is the software which allows you to create a computer prompt script?? Thank you all in advance, Sam Orme
Orchytech Posted February 8, 2004 Posted February 8, 2004 LD Calculator is the first bit of software I add to any machine where I am working. Some of its a bit specialist but you are guaranteed to find something of use amongest its tools. http://www.paul-pelletier.com/LDCalculator...culatorPage.htm
nickb12345 Posted February 8, 2004 Posted February 8, 2004 Hi offline editors for all the major LX desks. I think most of them are free from manufacturers websites - I know the Frog offline editor (Phantom Frog) if free from the Z88 Website. Not sure about others (big companies like Strand Avolites etc) Something like WYSIWYG would probably be useful but costs a bomb. If you don't want to cash out for that then some CAD software (AutoCAD LE or TurboCAD LE are both free I think) with some lighting sybmols for doing rig plans. obviousley something like MS Office or similar. Another usefull bit of kit for the lighting side would be a DMX contoller although these can get a bit on the expensive side - something like Martin LightJockey looks good but you may have to remortgage your house to buy it! Hope that helps Nick Baker Link fixed by Peter Russell
P. Funk Posted February 8, 2004 Posted February 8, 2004 note to nick: atm your z88 link points to www.zero99.co.uk... lee/rosco websites available offline? ;) you can of course go into all the design apps such as wysiwyg.. but they star costing money. most importantly: windows media player! vital during those long long getins..
