soundworxeng Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 we are a pa company on the island of cyprus and we handle concerts of all types of music but generally pop and rock greek music.we play in mainly open spaces and a few arenas to crowds ranging from 2 thousand to up 10 thousand max.we are planing to invest ina a 8 perside Q1 with a pair of Q7 as down fills and 4 Q1 as center fills with 6 subs per side.I have rumours that the system is not powerfull enough and im better off in purchasing the j system straight out? anyone used the Q1 system
Chris Hinds Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 You need to be aware the d&b audioteknik (the people who make Q and J) are very different from dB Technologies. I have used Q, and as with all things sound, it depends. It depends what your venue is like, what your expected SPL is, what your programme material is. I've done 6 Q1 per side with delays for around 8000 but it was classical music, very low level relative to rock and pop and I was still using a fair amount of the system. Again that's ambiguous because I was outside, it was still and the audience virtually silent. The best advise as ever is to bring the system in and have it for one of your shows and then decide. I would be tempted to say that on the whole for much over 5000 People you are going to be inadequate. Also download the array calculator from d&b's website, it will tell you what kind of response you'll get over a certain area. Regards Chris
Big Dave Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 For those kind of numbers, you would definitely be better off buying J series instead of Q series however, you will end up having to spend a whole lot more money but you won't be disappointed with the result. The J does sound awesome.
Rob_Beech Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 NO, I have to agree with Chris. TRY before you buy. of course. you was going to do that wasn't you? I've done about 8000 outdoors with 6 a side of Q1 with a Q7 df. that was 6 Q subs and 2 B2's a side (no CSA). It coped perfectly well for "classic rock".
