Madmac Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Came across this auction selling off used hire stock from Procon in Germany, nearly a 1000 moving heads, 10 Hog2's, 3 kilometers assorted trussing, etc a couple of weeks ago. Nobody else has posted it, so ..... http://www.troostwijkauctions.com/ Auction finishes on the 8th May
tokm Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Looks like some good deals.. 150 euros for an old Martin pal 1200! Cheers Madmac! Tom *edit - Is it just me or does it look like they're selling everything they have? Or are they 'the PRG' of germany (implying that what they have there is only a 5th or something of their total stock), they going bust due to not getting eurovision this year (or last year?)*
Ike Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 They're just getting rid of a small percentage of their hire stock, Procon are massive!
Andrew C Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Someone told me* that this stuff is all ex Athens Olympics. *Reasonably reliable, but no solid evidence!
Ike Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 I heard the same but just didn't want to be the first to say it in case of being hopelessly wrong, it certainly would seem to make sense.
vl nick Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 My advise to anyone new to auctions would be to read the auction details carefully.... you can get stung with many extra costs (tax / auction house commission / delivery fees etc) Also there is normally a certain timescale to collect your equipment. Having said this you can still pick up some terrific bargains, just like the Millennium Dome auction
Dmills Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 That would explain the comparative absence of <2KW conventional lanterns. Anyone want to go splits on hiring a truck for a week from now? There are things I would bid on, but cannot think of a good way to get back here. Be careful if buying any of those prewired par bars, the harting pinning may well be different to UK standard. Regards, Dan.
Madmac Posted May 6, 2007 Author Posted May 6, 2007 AS vlnick has said make sure you are aware of all conditions before bidding. The main one to note is the auctioneers commission at 15% added on top of the hammer price, with a further hit of German VAT at 19%. If you have a valid UK VAT number then there is no VAT to pay. These are a few items surplus to Procon current hire requirements, some are quite old. There is even a rare beast … a Hog1 console. It is a reminder of how much kit some hire companies hold.
gareth Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 There is even a rare beast … a Hog1 console.Strangely, though, the brain is listed as a separate lot, elsewhere on the list. Still, if I had the money (and the space to keep it) I'd put in a bid - I've got a bit of a soft spot for older desks (so the LP90 would probably also be quite tempting!) ... :P
musht Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Other thought strikes me that things like the venerable HogII is increasingly difficult to get spares for.
Andrew C Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Good to see that the usual feeding frenzy madness continues! 4 Behringer DIs currently at Є100 ex 15% commission and 19% VAT when they can be bought NEW for £25 inc from DV247. Oh I do hope it isn't one of us! Does someone around here have a Yamaha desk missing some inputs? May not be the right ones... http://www.troostwijkauctions.com/App_TwkS...335&cid=608 Scroll down.
Dmills Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Having once been to a stage electrics auction and seen 'well used' par cans going for >£25 each (without lamp), and some equally battered mics going for more then new nothing surprises me at auction any more. The scary thing is that that rather over the top bid on the di's was there yesterday, so it is not a last minute frenzy thing. Regards, Dan.
gareth Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I'd never buy anything at an ex-hire auction, unless it was something that stood out as being an absolute steal of a bargain. A few years ago, I went along to what was possibly the very first SLX auction (when they bought Light Relief in Cardiff, and auctioned off all the stuff they didn't want when they turned it into Stage Electrics Cardiff). The prices that some people were paying for gear that was, at best, decidedly average amazed me - I didn't (and still don't) understand what it is about auctions that turns otherwise rational people into lunatics who'll pay the earth for tat ...
Bryson Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I went to the Dome Auction. It was pure comedy, the prices people were paying for total, utter tat.
bruce Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I've had a good number of bargains at auctions. At the last one I went to, I picked up 2x450W power amps , a 12ch mixer, 2xSM58s, various 1U rack gear bits and pieces, and a pile of cables for less than 200 pounds. All virtually new, complete with boxes and receipts from Sound Control! I then sold one of the amps on Ebay for more than I paid for the lot... At the same auction, I got some parcans, with lamps, hooks and safeties, for a fiver each. The important thing was that this was not a "specialist" auction - it was a general sale in which this sort of stuff was only a very small proportion of the total, and so didn't attract "specialist buyers" - at least not in this field. That particular auction was the contents of a hotel that had gone bust - most of the buyers were after tables, chairs and kitchen equipment.
