Desks that go BANG

The power supply in my Soundcraft 324 Live went bang last week. (at 6pm when we had a 7pm show) Its away being fixed as we speak. However, I have lost all confidence in the desk and I am thinking of getting a Yamaha O1V96. Any comments, good or bad on the O1v96.

No comments on the Yamaha stuff, but the PSU on our 324 died a few weeks before the Xmas period (and duringa show!) The good folks at Soundcraft did a splendid (and fairly cheap) "out of warranty" job on the PSU - replacing components to get it back to life again.

They did tell me that the original 324 PSU is no longer available, and if ours couldn't be fixed, it would have to be replaced with one from a 328.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with getting yours fixed and what your "service report" tells you!

I have been given an estimated cost of £500 plus vat. And yes the power supply is no longer available. One is being made to order. I will report on what the report says in due course

Yamaha - haven't had much experience with 01v96 - except that it has a great spec for the money, Had a fair bit of experience with the 03d's though - normal faults are dead A>D chips, and dead faders with the occasional PSU earthing fault. (but there are about 50 of them at work at the moment...) On the whole though yamaha have been fairly reliable (though we haven't had a problem with the one 324 either...

I've just been using a Behringer DDX3216 for the show this week and find it supprisingly useable - the level meters on the faders alone are brilliant - coupled with the dynamic automation and surround panning I think it's a great little desk - but it could have done with more than 4 aux....
