gnomatron Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 my workplace (a student union spread over 3 buildings) uses almost exclusively 3-pin DMX. The main (indeed, only) reason for it is legacy; we had a massive club installation done about 8 years back, using 3 pin DMX on a rig that was almost all Martin. We have hundreds of 3 pin DMX cable, and they work fine. They do break the standard, but the only problem we encounter is the odd bit of kit that has the two signal lines reversed. I would rather we had all 5 pin for when we hire kit in, but 90% of our fixtures have 3 pin sockets on, even now.
Ynot Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 The splitter idea is a good one. I have a Celco splitter that has 4 5-pin outs, 1 3-pin, and 1 3-pin reversed. Very useful.I recently got a good deal on a DMX splitter from Ebay - 5 and 3-pin in to two outputs, each with 5 and 3 pin outs.Obviously can't use both 3 and 5 on the same output leg, but could use 3 on leg 1 and 5 on leg 2, which is what I did last week, which helped out a LOT!! Needless to say, keeping an eye out for more!!
