Freestyler

Hello.

I have freestyler and the Magic 3D Easy View visualiser, but I was wondering whether freestyler works with any other visualisers other than this.

I ask because as good as this visualiser is, if Freestyler worked with something like WYG that would be ideal!

Thanks

Hi,

As far as I know the answer would be no as even if it was compatible with Wysiwyg you would still have to purchase there software for an arm and a leg of money.

Maybe your question would be better placed on freestylers forum here as they will probably know more about there software.

Chris

Most visualizers offer provisions for DMX in, so you should be able to hook any board/controller to them. A fair number, like ESP Vision and Lewlight Capture support ArtNet input, so you can even make the connection virtual or via LAN. Cast (WYSIWYG) supports a DMX input, but you have to buy a dongle. The 'direct' connection is proprietary and available by license only.

djburnage is correct in that cost is the most likely hurdle. A visualizing version of WYSIWYG is $4000+ (USD) and Capture is around $1300. ESP offers a very attractive student price for vision, but you still need to buy a CAD package to create models for it (say at least $1300).

Actually, I'm hearing yes.

After skimming through the document I can't help but ask, why? It seems like a lot of hasstle to get to the Martin Show Designer Live Visualizer (the offline visualizer included with Light Jockey). Yes, the actual visualization is not as weak as Magic 3D, but it isn't all that good either. MSD's strength is in ray trace rendering (offline visualization). You also can't desgn stages or scenes, and you can't generate reports, etc. ala WYG. Capture, etc. (Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure how much you can/can't do with Magic 3D in 'limited' mode, I seem to recall the CAD views being disabled.)

Again, MSD proper could be used directly, but the hurdle would be price. Still if you are using an "Open DMX" interface, a physical link might be best. That way the visualizer, whatever it is, can simulate the bad packet flickers... <_<

I can't disagree with that. I'm only pointing out that it can be used with another visualizer such as LJ.

I wasn't trying to put you on the spot, I just am puzzled what/why the author was really trying to accomplish. Sorry if it came across otherwise.

No problem,

Not that it should matter, but the author is only 13 years old. Not bad for someone so young.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hey there. I am the author of the (unfinished) guide and want to fist say, thank you for reading it. The guide was intended for mobile DJ use as that is what I use the program for. As far as the visualizers go, I disliked the fact that the gobos in the "Magic 3d" visualizer were just numbers rather than actual patterns. Because I do not need to visualize a stage because I have little equipment, I decided the main goal was to visualize the beams and I felt MSD did the best in that department. It also is not "limited" like Magic 3d is besides the fact that you must use Martin's dongle to send out the information. As far as I know, Magic 3d constricts your ability to navigate inside your virtual room, while MSD doesn't.

I hope this clears some things up.

Also, thanks for that compliment on my writing for being 13.
