Following on from a conversation I had the other evening with a fellow Blue Room member, I thought I'd put this poll up ...

It's aimed primarily at those of you who are currently working as electricians/technicians with touring productions (or have done so in the past). Of all the desks that you could imagine finding in a venue when you arrive on a Monday morning, which one is most likely to make you a happy bunny?

(The choices in the poll are based on desks which currently exist - or did until recently - in UK touring houses. If there's a desk that I've missed out, please let me know and I'll add it!)

I expect it was I who kicked off this poll  :** laughs out loud **:  - and my choice is, and will only ever be (for the near future anyway) a Strand 500 Series.

not that my opinion really counts, but I would guess either a strand 500 series, or a wholehog, im a big fan of the strands I must say, kind of an industry standard?

You could add the Compulite Spark, Micron and Ovation, quite a lot of them in touring houses around the UK.

Almost as soon as I'd posted the poll, I realised I'd left out Compulite, and I wondered how long it would be before you let me know, Andy! :** laughs out loud **:

I'll add it it, but I'm going to have to ditch one of the others coz you can only have 10 options in a poll ...

The Strand 500 series wins hands down all the time (well does for me!) Anyone can pick it up and start using it almost instantly and access higher functions with ease... I have to say all this as my desk is listening and I don't want to upset her!!...I'm loosing it - HELP :** laughs out loud **:

Maybe I ought to clarify the question a little bit. It's not simply about what your favourite desk is - rather, if you were touring a show into a venue where you'd use the in-house desk, what desk would you rather have from a point of view of ease of transferring your show into the venue's desk when you already have a complete plot (perhaps on a set of discs, perhaps as a paper plot) and just need to get the show into the desk as quickly and painlessly as possible?

Thanks for adding Compulite, however I have to say that I think the answer has to be the Strand 500 series, it may not be the best desk (subject to discussion of course), but it is the most popular in touring theatre venues and has to therefore be the easiest for transfer of shows.

Still the 500 series.. As it can be set up in a number of different ways to suit the user, I am assuming the touring spark is working on a theatre piece as a pose to a musical or concert who would be hopefully touring their own desk?

Also in my experience of touring the majority of touring houses you may visit already own a Strand making a simple loading of the disk.

I would like to add my support for Compulite in this one - SparkTop 4D is ideal for travelling, Briefcase sized desk, and very powerful.

Although depending on the show, if its theatre or conference then would choose Compulite, if something very big like fashion show, awards, concerts then HogII/III

Am looking forward to playing with the new vector though Andy, the desk looks very nice, and is very appealing!

Hi Colin,

Don't see your vote appearing in the poll, we need at least one otherwise I feel stupid getting Gareth to add it!

Any time you want to look at the Vector let me know. I am at TOTP tomorrow afternoon and we are planning to have a couple of 'showing's at various rental houses so I will let you know.

I don't think you are registered on our web site to receive e-mails about the latest Compulite goings on, if you want me to add you drop me an e-mail to andy@stagetec.co.uk or visit the contact section of our web site and register.

Agree with what you say in general terms, Colin - but can I just state once again, this poll is about what electricians touring with theatrical productions like to find as in-house desks when they tour into small/mid-scale venues with shows which are using house consoles. Your comments are spot-on when it comes to specifying a desk for a particular job - but unfortunately that wasn't the question.

Ok Gareth... I would like to find as in inhouse desk a Compulite!

Was jus specifying my preferences for desks in general as well.

Admin: Is there a way to change your vote on this forum?

Andy: I had already clicked the Hog button before the Compulite's were added

( sorry ) although on the basis of the question, given the choice I would choose Compulite!
