Gazlights Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Hey Everyone! I need to ask someone some advice.... Some of the LED's are not functioning properly on the set for the show I am working on...I've attached a photo (Click here) as you can see the upper S/R section of Led's are much dimmer than the rest and as a result the colour is not mixing properly. When I put the set into certain colours this section is always different than the rest....it only seems to be halfway along the Led strip though. Would this be sorted by simply replacing all the led strips in this section or should I be looking somewhere else?? Also the inside S/R led boxes (working in the photo) have recently started playing up.....thay are all on at 100%. when I test them using the test button the RGB and all work fine. Originally I thought it may be a blown triac on the control module but I checked them and they are all functioning properly. I checked the Ledion LM04 driver, and it is recieving power but no DMX....strange as it goes through the driver and out to a MAC 250+ onstage and the mac is receiving data. I've plugged a known working data line directly into the driver with the same result the mac recieves data but not the driver. I've not worked with Led's that much so I'm sorry if these are stupid questions but a second opinion before I spend any money would be greatly appreciated...Is it normal for the data to flow through a buggered driver without the unit recieving DMX? I think I'm going to replace the driver and try and work through the old one to find out why its not working....intreaguing! Cheers for any opinions peeps! G

Cheers for any opinions peeps! G As its all the lamps in one section, look at connections first, its low voltage but high current, tarnished contacts can cause problems , dry joints in soldered connections, loose crimps etc Most things are a straight through DMX connection, no silicon, and a short tap to the the receiver chip.
LDODD Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Try Swapping over the LM04 drivers with one that you know works. (at which point you'll know that you have a faulty driver) BTW - I'm not familiar with the Driver part LM04 - Assume you mean LMD04? In theory, if there is no DMX in to the unit, it should run inbuilt scenes via the dip-switch settings (see manual). This may be the problem. Not Receiving DMX: How many DMX units do you have on the run?Or, sometimes, the DMX chip on board that processes the DMX signal can blow. This may not prevent the Unit from transferring the DMX signal to other units on the chain. As this is a weakness of this kind of device, the 2 circuits are usually in Parallel Dim LED Strips = What quantity of LED's are you running off your LMD04? if you exceed the limit, then the output will become Dimmer (Restricted by the 48VDC internal PSU in the LMD04.Or: Bad Cat 5 Connection - did you terminate cables yourself? If so, did you use Solid/Stranded Cat5 and the relevant crimps (They are different) This can cause voltage drop and dim LED's. Sounds like a dud driver, but could be a few of the above also. All common LED-type faults and NOT necessarily manufacturer specific.
