adrian333 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Hello, I am building my own custom scanner that works on a slightly simpler mechanism than commercial ones. I am looking for some mirrors which are lightweight like the ones used on commercial scanners (I have an Acme winner). I need it to be approx 20x10 cm large, does anyone have any good suggestions? Many thanks, this forum has been a wealth of knowledge so far, and I hope to show you my creation when it works! Bye, Adrian
gyro_gearloose Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I am building my own custom scanner Excellent! That makes two of us!! You could always try getting your hands on a Goldenscan mirror. Try AC Lighting. I did ask them about supplying me with two Goldenscan mirrors, but it took a while for them to set up my account. In the mean time I bought some 3mm thick acrylic mirror sheet. It looks indistinguishable from glass, is far, far easier to cut than glass, and is very cheap. An A3-sized sheet cost me £10 in total. I'll be able to get four mirrors from it (with some careful cutting!!). Each mirror is an oval 6" by 7". My mirror is design to attach to 6" profiles such as the Source Four. I'm still in the process of completing the electronics, but when thats finished everything (plans, schematics, etc) will be put up online. Anyway, heres a pic of my mirror :http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t41/gyro_gearloose/th_mymirror.jpg To the moderators : The spell check function does not appear to handle words with more than 16 letters. When I did a spell-check it highlighted all of "indistinguishable" except the e at the end. The first suggested correction was "indistinguishable" with an e at the end. Odd... Moderation: Image thumbnailed. We'll look into the spellcheck issue.
David A Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 To repair cheaper scans I buy small desk mirrors from discount stores as the glass is very thin, for my proper scans I buy optical front mirror glass from a shop who make kaleidoscopes, this is much cheaper than buying from the manufacturers and in my case much quicker.
Robe575xt Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Hi, Goldenscan "3" mirrors are about the biggets commercial light weight mirror you will find from a moving light manfacturer, they are about £10.00 from pulasr lighting in cambridge (www.pulsarlight.com). You do not need to be an account holder, I ordered two on monday they were up in the rig by Wednesday afternoon.
Stuart91 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 A company I know had their GoldenScans nicknamed "AllegroScans" because the cheapest way to get a replacement mirror was to take one off an old Austin Allegro. (Gives you some idea how long ago this was)
