stevebain4 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Hey guys. I need some advice on backdrops.I'm usually working sound in th theater business, but ive been asked to put on a band night in a local bar, unfortunately the stage ive been given has a mirrored wall at the back and it looks awful to say the least. What sort of fire retardant material cn I make a black backdrop from??? I need to try and keep cost down too but not at the expense of safety.Any advice would be awesome.
WiLL Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 talk to the good people at J&C Joel for fire retardant materials and curtains, or Flints theatrical chandlers or failing that buy your back drop material and treat with a a fire retardant such as Flambar or flamecheck, also available from Flint's. But bear in mind very few flame retardant materials remain flame retadant after they get washed or rained on seriously, and will need retreating. Also this will only stop the material from bursting into flame. They will still char and smoke if exposed to excessive heat.
Brian Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Any of these or these. On a practical note the second link above is to a very lightweight material which means a) you can probably find someone locally with an ordinary sewing machine who can make it up into whateve size you want and b) it's going to be light enough to easily rig.
