Ste69 Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 If you were to buy a decent sized portable stage how much would it cost approx?
Bryson Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Define: "Decent sized" "Portable" Roof or no roof?
Pete McCrea Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 How long is a peice of string? More info needed. Size for a start. I'd say decent is 10m wide by 20 deep. You might think that's a bit too big.
Jivemaster Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Ste69, please do the fag packet sketch, then the CAD sketch, then run it round a few suppliers, knowing that dimensions must be given and loadings proposed before a competent person can suggest a solution and price, then the price will cause the design to change so back to the beginning :|| http://www.blue-room.org.uk/index.php?showtopic=19410 is one example of how things can go very wrong.
Blue Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Thats a lighting rig collapse not a stage collapse Jive
Pete McCrea Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I think the link was designed to make the OP realise that there's a bit more to buying and using a stage in many circumstances. Overload or badly build a stage and you could potentially have the same type of result. Those vague types of 'how long is my peice of string' questions can be quiet scary, as they come accross as people with minimal experience possibly getting themselves into deep water. I'm all up for helping people as I'm sure 99% of the people on the board are. But they also need to realise the potential pitfalls of getting it wrong.
Ste69 Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 I was just talking in general for a big enough stage to fit a band on comfortably, I was just wondering whether it would be an option to buy a portable stage in the future or do without.
PYROmaster Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I think at this point Ste mate it would be a nice idea to give the nice BR people an idea of what you want...** laughs out loud **It would be like the Salop Music Centre stage(See Here)But obviously it would be customised to suit Ste! :P *runs and hides before Ste hits him for pointing out obvious link* :P
Ste69 Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 Yeah, simular to that, except no roof, therefore no lighting bars (just to annoy Phil so he can't rig his lights onto it )
the kid Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Looking at that picture/vid its 10 pieces of 1m x 2m deck guestamating from my phone call to steel-deck about our pieces and looking on the net 10 pieces minus legs would be £3000-4000. Thats no including the truck.
J Pearce Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Unless you can get the stage hire work every week I wouldn't bother. Its cheaper (and better for you liability wise) to hire it. If you need to satisfy gear acquisition syndrome buy something more transferable and hire-able. Compressors and mics are good if you're sound orientated.
Ste69 Posted April 24, 2007 Author Posted April 24, 2007 Me and my mate are thinking about building our own 1m by 1m wooden blocks that we can connect together as a stage and we can stack them for easy storage, what are you opinions on this idea? I think I'll just hire a stage until I can afford to buy wembly arena
Yorkie Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Home made staging might not be covered by insurance if the stage hasn't been tested and approved. I was entirely ignorant to the technicalities of staging until I was shown the 54 page PDF of load calculations etc. that comes with Litedeck.
david.elsbury Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Me and my mate are thinking about building our own 1m by 1m wooden blocks that we can connect together as a stageHow do you propose to stop the sections from seperating on your home-made blocks? All the portable staging I have come across has provision for bolting the sections together to make one large deck. Imagine if you had a stage setup and someone rolled their ankle in a gap... they would not be best pleased!
