lukemh Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Hi all I am looking for some silenced projection boxes capable of working with our projectors, does anyone know of some good units? Regards Luke
obsoperator Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I am looking for some silenced projection boxes capable of working with our projectors, does anyone know of some good units?Well, even if the brand of projectors is intended to be indicated by your avatar (as opposed to the subject line, also a bad place to put message content...), I've never heard of a "factory" projector box. They're usually custom built, and seldom of sheet metal (!), but usually combustible wood. Without knowing the dimensions of your projector and its BTU/hr output, it's pretty hard to respond. How much noise is acceptable? Usually the most fully-enclosed boxes have fans, which are "quiet" but not "silent". I'm guessing that the projector has full remote control, so no access will be needed after it's been leveled and tested. Frankly, the few boxes I've seen that were fully-enclosed (i.e. with a window in front) resulted eventually in damage to the projector or to the slides! So I'd recommend as little enclosure as possible, with room for foam silencing. But have you determined that the lighting designer will stay far enough away from the box to permit plenty of foam? Do you have a budget for acoustic-rated, fire-retardant foam?
lukemh Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 True - and Yes I work for Barco. I have seen several so let me make a brief discription. these units are typically a fixed install complete with cooling and venilation ducts. budget on this occasion is not an issue typical system around at the moment only reduce the DB to about 50db using a typical 3 chip machine. access WILL be needed for lamp changes and servicing but in the main it is not required. I am really looking to see if their is a tried and tested system out there - I remember a company in the UK used to make boxes like this for cinemas but I cannot find them anymore. hope this helps
Floydey Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 You can get "smoke boxes" which are designed to fully enclose projectors in places such as pubs and clubs and essentially prevent cigarette smoke from contaminating the optics. They tend to have a filtered inlet and a fan assisted outlet to help keep the projector cool, so I guess they probably don't really have much of a silencing effect.
lukemh Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 No they are more to filter tar and dirt. my use is more noise sensitive I should point out on a much bigger size, think about 1m x .5m x .5m for my projector alone. :D
Simon Lewis Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Why not try companies that make acoustic enclosures?! I have pasted the first two examples from the IOA website... You will need a fully enclosed box with a silenced air handling system to eliminate noise transmission through and from the ducting. lukemh Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 an interesting viewpoint I shall try them thanks for that.
