Simon Lyall Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Well, Im an 8 1/2 size shoe normally and thus I ordered 9. They fitted fine with wiggle space for toes but overall movement. I dont have excessively high arches or wide feet and though there would be room for higher arches (because of how the laces work) I reckon you should try a pair on if you have wide feet. Or you order and if they dont fit send them back! Very very comfortable on all sides as they have a slight padding in all the sides (which will give you some give if your feet are too big/too small) and shine up well (oh hang on,.. thats not a good thing here!). Of course with all boots they take a time to walk in, but it wasn't too long for me (having said that I was wearing them to and from school every day which is about 1 mile there! The reinforced heel is really good for when someone runs a flight case into your heels!
broadcast_techie Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Am currently wearing a pair of steel toe caped boots bought from 'The Shoe Zone' for £19, less student discount. They also do steel toe wellies, a must for Leeds festival this summer. Kris
Leecey Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Can beat that - got a pair (worn once) off ebay for £2.50 plus postage. It's worth having a quick look on there. Mine are some german make, haven't got them handy. I've tested dropping 40kg on them from half a metre (not while wearing them obviously) and they survived fine. Of course, I have no idea how good they're meant to be? Is that even vaguely sufficient do you reckon? I imagine some people would call me an idiot for entrusting my toes to cheap boots - in my defence I only work casual about twice a month and don't move too much heavy stuff around.
Bryson Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Depends how heavy the things you're shifting are. Above 250-300KG, all steel toe caps do is cut your toes off rather than let them get crushed. Which is worse? You decide....
eviljohn2 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I've just bought a pair of these:http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/scripts/detail...p;product=31149Had them for a few weeks of heavy daily use - they're extremely comfortable and weigh about as much as my trainers! The composite toecap also solves any worries about the cap slicing toes off... I was in the ACF for 7 years and never had so much trouble with boots as the earlier poster. 2 pairs of Assault boots did me over that time and they were extremely comfortable throughout and probably the most hard-wearing footwear I've ever come across. :D

itinerant baker Posted April 21, 2007 Author Posted April 21, 2007 Anyone know if there's any spec or anything legal that they have to conform to before they can be called 'safety'? Or is it just a word in this case. Also anyone seen an easy explanation of the various ISO's mentioned? Well, Im an 8 1/2 size shoe norm.......Cheers, may well give them a ring on monday.
