IRW Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 The LED tracking system provides a new look for any rig; it will grab the audience's attention and I can assure you that the LED's are very powerful! They will either track the main output beam or can be complementary to it in terms of colour. The LED tracking system can strobe and can be used with or without the main output beam. So they are just to make it look pretty then... :D When you say 'tracking system', what do you mean?
tokm Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I'm envisioning: LEDs in white, with the main beam in a very deep/UV'like blue. Could look interesting. A halo of white around a decent/viewable UV'ish beam of light. MMMM :D But yes, does look primarily for show. Wonder who in the UK'll be the 1st to use them... Tom
3guk Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Tbh I like the idea, I see more and more movers integrated into set and shown off, this should just increase the amount of times this happens. Seems like a little bit of a gimmick, but still, if it looks cool, I'll have it !!
Mark Leahy Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 So they are just to make it look pretty then... :D When you say 'tracking system', what do you mean? The LED system is simply called an "LED Tracking System" - it can track the colour of the main output beam if you like. It does not chase. When you say "So they are just to make it look pretty then..." aren't all lights there to make something look pretty? Surely that is the purpose of lighting...for effect? I've spoken with many creative people/LD's on this and they all have positive ideas as to how this additional feature can be used to good effect. I'm envisioning: LEDs in white, with the main beam in a very deep/UV'like blue. Could look interesting. A halo of white around a decent/viewable UV'ish beam of light. This is exactly what can be achieved. It's time to take the blinkers off, everyone! Mark - HES
niclights Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Though clearly you can do some neat new effects and the circular array of LED's would be unique, I think the problem is whether the extra expense is worth it for the return. The first show to use it will look stunning but there doesn't seem to be much scope in this concept. Anyhoo, how about some specs? How many Gobos? What is colour system? What is beam exit dia?
Jamtastic3 Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Hmmm... well so far it looks like it has a CMY colour system and a High End's Technowedges gobo/litho, possibly an iris of some sort going on there (with the sudden change in beam angle) and probably a nice focusing shaft (like they have on their Technobeams). Anything else....
Sam_Lowers Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 The unit (I think) really does look cool and like said before it is an audience eye catcher! The only thing I would be concerned about, looking at the size of it, is the weight! Admittedly it could be hauled into a rig but imagine 2 of you trying to pick it out of a flight case, invert it and place it in position on the floor - not my cup of tea! A little off topic but did anybody see that celebrity singing competition for children in need? They had some large beam movers in that rig, looking at the video of the Showgun they were similar to this.Does anybody have any idea what these were? Sam
Dj Dunc Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Sam in this case I think you would have to use the guitar technicians version of a flightcase, I.e upside down. lifting the deep part of the cover off, and just leaving the "lid" on wheels
J Pearce Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 You would just use a normal moving head case, where the heads stow hookclamp up. Wheel it to underneath the truss, 2 or 3 people lift it up onto the truss (~20cm lift) then winch your truss up.It's fairly standard stuff, nothing that special.
Bryson Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Indeed. While large, there are certainly much larger fixtures in common usage. The VL 3000 stuff is massive, for a start.

The first show to use it will look stunning but there doesn't seem to be much scope in this concept. Anyhoo, how about some specs? How many Gobos? What is colour system? What is beam exit dia? Exiting beam diameter approx 10" (25cm). 4 rotating patterns plus open and indexable (many shows use only a few gobos). Very fast pan/tilt (Less than 1 second for 180 degr). V. fast colour mixing with ability to produce colour strobes. CMY and Indigo. Variable beam angles for hard and soft edges are between 10 and 18 degrees. Weight approx 59kg; 2 people can easily hang SHOWGUN - very similar to hanging DL.2 and others
niclights Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Cheers! Beam size and power look very punchy. Agreed about gobos, but nice to have the option on this size unit, so four's more than enough. What are dimensions?
Ben Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Hey all New Video from HES of the Showgun http://www.highend.com/hesdirect/showgun/ Looks very impressive and the spec is not bad. Enjoy
Jamtastic3 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 That's a better vid than the first one, though you could see there was another 4 of them lined up beside the one that was working. It would've been great if all five were on, then we could see the effect of what the LED rings would look like in the dark as a group.
Dj Dunc Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 ey, no stealing my words you jammy bugger. yes, id like to see what effect it has on a static wash, although about 1/3 of the way throught there was a few seconds with just the LEDs on, which didnt look all that impressive, but it was moving at the same time. It was a very close range video, and so I would be inclined to see a video of one in operation on for example an outdoor concert stage from FOH position, so as to see its real beam range and effectiveness of the LEDs.
