Jivemaster Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I'm considering refiting a pair of 802s currently there are NO drivers in them. DO Bose supply drivers? Roughly how much and what wiring is in the cab. I see lots of drivers on ebay but looks like doesnt always work like or sound like, does anyone have experience?
paulears Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 16 drivers cost quite a bit, even at eBay prices, plus the controller. Wiring is just a combination of series and parallel to make what you need. If the cabs are in good nick, it could be worth it - but cost wise,I'd be unsure the resale value would be more than the parts cost?
pisquee Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 your time and money could be better spent. There are better quality speaker cabs out there, both in terms of audio and build. Despite Bose's heavy advertising, and popularity, they aren't really that good. If you factor in how much your time is worth, and the costs of the parts, you would be better off buying a decent set of speaker cabs, that are complete.
Bod Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 If memory serves me right a driver costs about £65- £70 each, so if you need all 16 it is not an economical proposition as you can buy a clean second hand pair with controller for about the £450- £500. Have heard there is a lot of fakes on ebay which are not the correct impedence, as bose drivers are 1ohm. All the drivers are wired in series to give the cabinet it's eight ohm impedence. There are capacitive systems across 4 drivers so if one driver fails the cabinet still works but souns very thin. Would not recomend using without controller as this gives cabinet proper eq shaping.
Jivemaster Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 OK then If 802s are expensive to refit, What else form the bottom of the market price range would you suggest for music and speech, with a sub.
pisquee Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 What is your budget? ... "bottom of the market" depends on your point of view.Is your priority more towards music or speach, or is it 50/50?What is your intended purpose? is this for a weekend bar band? corporate conferences? church? The more information you give, the better an answer you will recieve.
