Lighting book recommendation

Looking for recommendations as to a good book to assist the teaching of stage lighting to school children. Ideally something not to expensive so as several copies can be brought. Looking for a book with the emphasis on the practical approach, but that covers enough basic theory so as to give an understanding.

 

I am out of touch with what's available, so any recommendations would be most appreciated!

Personally, I would go with "The Stage lighting Handbook" by Francis Reid...

Seconded, it taught me alot of the basics when I read it and was just starting out.

Another vote for Francis Reid, although no book is ever perfect for exactly what you need.

Hi,

 

I'm 16 and was recommended the book by Francis Reid a few days ago. I went to the library and got it out and I can say it is very, very good. However, it may depend what age kids your teaching because it is fairly complex for complete beginners to lighting.

 

There is another book that I borrowed from my schools library, however, I can't remember the name of the author that wrote it. The name was "Stage Lighting Step-by-Step". I know that there is one book that goes by this name by Graham Walters, but it is not this one.

When I get back to school I'll endeavour to find the authors name and post it on here because I can honestly say its the best book I have read on the topic as it covered everything you need to know. It is also very user friendly with lots of diagrams etc.
