u_dakka Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Are there any trade mags especially for lighting.I know of the stage and read it occaisionally (but it's a bit short on the tech side)From doing a search I've come accross the Lighting and Sound - but never bought thatAlso got and read a few Sound on Sound - but obviously that doesn't do lighting. So... What are people's opinions on various trade mags, especially if there are any that are for lighting? andy
tokm Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 No... there aren't any that are just for us lampies.. IMO, there would be no point, not enough stuff happening on that subject to warrant a whole mag. If you want industry news on shows that have content about, LX, sound, stage'ing, AV etc, best bet is LSI (light/sound international) :P Apart from that, just look round the net. UKSLC & ETnow always seem to have articles on a variety of subjects. Tom Edit - Here >> http://www.ukslc.org/News.html Made it simple for u. Best section with stuff from shows/tours is the Installs and Case Stories section.
peter Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Don't forget Total Production and Mondo DR. Night also covers the entertainment industry.
Jamtastic3 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Yeah the only one I get is NIGHT magazine. Very interesting even if it likes showing the commercial side of the industry. It would be great if they had a section on more underground, less glitzy venues. Alot of the time I can't believe how much equipment is installed in some venues - such a waste and alot of maintenance costs...
woody74 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I believe the BSC has a magazine too, but I would recommend American Cinematographer; it's a great tool for reading about other disciplines of lighting that can be applied to both theatre and production. -w
Jonny DMX Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 It depends what type of lighting you are interested in. As said before you could try some of these magazines: Mondo arc architectural lighting (www.archlighting.com)total lighting (www.total-lighting-magazine.co.uk)lighting (http://www.emap.com/brands-content.asp?resource=104)Lighting & Sound international (www.lsionline.co.uk) - Which is free if you are a student in full time education.Total ProductionLight (www.lightmagazine.co.uk)the Lighting Journal (www.ile.org.uk) some are just architectural lighting but others are more entertainment industry based. You'd be surprised how much crossover there is between these magazines. They are all out there if you want to read them you just have to look. Jonny
