iamchristuffin Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I've just found a picture of a WHITE MAC 550 on Wikipedia...here can MACs be bought in white, or did someone just spraypaint the ML? Moderation: Topic title changed to something more helpful
tom_the_LD Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 It doesn't look spray painted :D So I guess they must be able to.
iamchristuffin Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 Yes. You can. do you know if it is just white, or other colours as well? I probably won't ever need to know this, but information never hurt anybody...did it??
Ynot Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 do you know if it is just white, or other colours as well? I probably won't ever need to know this, but information never hurt anybody...did it??Many manufacturers will be able to supply a variety of case colours, though I would expect most to be on a special order basis (ie read extra cost). After all, it's just a case of colouring the moulded casing.
david.elsbury Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 White versions of fixtures (Selecon can do all of theirs in white on request, for example) are available for the architectural and installation/museum/exhibition market who often require the visual appearance of the fixture to be smart and/or pretty. David
Ike Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 As far as I know its just black or white as standard. White is preferred for a lot of architectural uses in shops and the like. A lot of manufacturers produce "architectural" versions of their "theatre" lanterns in white and in the case of conventionals a lot also come with discharge lamps and ballasts. Having said that a number of manufacturers have been known to produce fixtures in more unusual colours, for example ETC have produced some bright red Source 4s.

I suspect that if you approached Martin with a big enough cheque in your pocket, you could probably get a pink one with yellow polka dots on it... Jim
dave_m Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 for example ETC have produced some bright red Source 4s.Why? They'd stick out fairly badly in most places! I can imagine a white Mac 550 looking quite nice actually in the coporate events world, or on stage in forbidden planet
Brian Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 for example ETC have produced some bright red Source 4s.Why? They'd stick out fairly badly in most places!Think retail spaces...
roryfm Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Anyone who visited the Gardner Arts Centre in Brighton was always surprised at our large stock of red/pink lanterns. They were powder coated a LONG time ago (it's the Patt 743's and 243's) during a routine service and was done to a) match the corporate colour at the time (!?) and b) to stop people from nicking them when they were hired out - I guess it worked as they were here til we closed for good last week. roryfm
gareth Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I guess it worked as they were here til we closed for good last week. :D The Gardner Arts Centre has closed down?! Didn't know that was happening. Is it reopening in another guise (new performing arts facility on the campus or something), or is this actually the end of it? (P.S. - if the kit's being sold off, let me know! :D)
tokm Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I've seen mac 250s in 'titanium' before. Was a fixed install at a conference house, but wouldn't surprise me if one or two rental shops had them in stock for special occasions! And I believe the minimacs are available in titanium from stock. Suppose if there's a reason to make something, why not. i.e. all the silver painted CP Stage colour 300s that got used every week on strictly come dancing.. Hehe I bet Richard Martin made their money back a few times over with that one :D Tom
woody74 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Why? They'd stick out fairly badly in most places! In addition to Brian's suggestion of retail spaces, think touring productions, rock bands, childrens theatre. It's not like ETC produces them en mass, but more on spec. The tour of "Mama Mia!" (at least in the states) had a custom white truss and white movers.
Tomo Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Why? They'd stick out fairly badly in most places!Because they asked for it!ETC can do Source Fours (and indeed most of our products) in any colour you like - obviously, it costs more than a black one and the lead time is longer. We even did a bright pink Sensor touring rack in the US for a certain pop star.I have no idea why she wanted it, but they did.
