ed_ Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Hi all, I've heard rumblings that people prefer the Look Solutions Unique 1 to the Unique 2, nothing concrete though. Does anyone have experience with both units? I've used the Unique 1 and agree it's a great piece of kit - what are the changes in the Unique 2? Cheers in advance - Ed.
Bryson Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 I used to have a Unique 1, and I now have a Unique 2 (two different venues). The Unique 2 has a much more powerful fan than the 1, but is considerably more noisy. Also, the Unique 1 seemed to disperse the haze more than the 2. I find with the 2 that too much disappears upwards (hence the "bit of dancefloor gaffered on" modification) and that, even on the lowest settings, the haze is a little too "thick" for my liking. All that said, I still think the Unique 2 is a good machine in the price range. The new Neutron Stars look interesting as a competitor, though.

Fleeting Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Hi, Just to add my piece. We used to have a mark one Unique hazer. We found that the fan on idle was to fast and dissapated the haze to quickly. We even bought the difflector for the front. We swapped it for the mark two about three months ago. The fan is more controllable and quieter. The only downside of the mark two is the air filter on the side. We do a lot of dance school show and it easily becomes clogged with dust and dismembered feather boa's. Regards Fleeting.
niclights Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 I also have one of each. In my application I haven't noticed much difference in output, albeit the output levels correspond to completely different densities (more usable on the II IMO). Mk II cons: Filter is not easily removed/replaced due to some silly design errors. Shell is awkward to remove including screws under the unit - the mk I was very easy to remove the side panel.Handle placement is terrible on the mk II - it is not balanced, with or without fluid and feels awkward. It's baffling to see how they could get this wrong! No switch - unit is turned off through menu setting. This is good and bad - the problem being you cannot stop the unit from heating up when connected circuits are powered without physically unplugging first.Unit takes up a larger footprint. Mk II pros: Auto shutdown on loss of DMX - the good part of having no physical switch!Faster shutdown.
ed_ Posted April 7, 2007 Author Posted April 7, 2007 Thanks folks - you've confirmed my suspicions but it doesn't put me off the unit - it'll still beat the 24/7 which in my opinion is the only viable competitor... Neutron Stars just don't do it for me, I don't think I've ever had one that worked first time on a job. If there's a new version then perhaps they've sorted it out, I'll investigate... It wouldn't be the first time the 'new' version of a product had less pros than cons - did anyone else notice about five years ago when Lee changed their 253 diff for the worse? Or was that just me imagining excuses for my focus?
Thomas1987 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Hi guys, To avoid starting a new topic, we've got a Unique 2 hazer and its fab - minimal when needs be, but really quite stunning when it needs to be. However, I have noticed recently that with the pump under 30, it seems to barely produce anything, but as soon as it hits about 40% it suddenly starts. I'm thinking its lines need cleaning - but what with? Can't find the manual at the moment, so just wondered if anyone had any ideas. Regularly clean the air filter so I don't think its related to that. Is it a distilled water job like a fogger?
niclights Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Deionised water. Make sure it's pure & not with additives present in some car battery top-ups.
