richie1575 Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Hi Everyone I'm a newbie so please be gentle with me!! I have a problem with a QSC power amp. Served me right for buying it second hand and not trying it out for ages. It's a PLX1602 and it powers up ok, but as soon as any input signal is applied, the sound cuts off and the power led goes to half brightness and it stays like this for some time. My main question is: do we think this is economically repairable..? And if so, are there any UK repairers who are reasonably priced and relaible! I'm in the Merseyside area! Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated! Many Thanks Richie
JMC Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Cimple Solutions (sic) are the UK repair agents for Shure Distribution (the QSC reps for the UK). Give them a ring and see what they think! http://www.cimplesolutions.co.uk/
Scouse Dave Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 As the amp is presumably out of warranty: Wigwam (just outside Manchester) have a decent repair tech - you could give them a ring and see? Adlib Audio do repairs, I have never used them, though but as they're in sunny Speke, I would say it's worth a phone call! Dave M
lightsource Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Hi Richie1575, and I've just had a quick look through the 1602 manual, it states An overload in bridged mono mode may cause the amplifier to click off for 3 seconds, indicated by the half bright Power LED, followed by a normal restart cycle. Check the load impedance. (This is the only reference I found to a half bright power LED in the troubleshooting section). Although this is not exactly the fault you have reported, it may be worth checking everything on the output side of the amp, and the dip switch settings on the amp as well. The PLX series are electronically well protected, so you could be lucky and it may not cost too much to repair. As to weather the amp is economically repairable, that depends on how much you paid for the amp, how much it's going to cost to repair it, and how much it would cost you to replace it.
Bod Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Would check that the amp is in stereo mode and not switched to mono. if not can recomend cimple solutions have used them before, best way to contact is by email, will get them on the phone pm only, booking by internet only. Hope this helps
ghance Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 we have a few QSC and have found these symptoms to be a 'feature' of the RMX series. I think 2 of our 6 RMX's have been back to shure to be fixed, and one of them has been back twice with same fault. I can't remember what it was, but I don't think it was anything BER (beyond economical repair). good luck
richie1575 Posted May 25, 2007 Author Posted May 25, 2007 Hi Guys! Sorry for such a long Delay! Thanks for the suggestions! I sent the amp to Cimple Solutions, the service guy promptly rang me and asked "what's wrong with it?". To cut a long story short, there were breaks in the PCB tracks. Once rebuilt, amp was as good as new!Next time I'll have a go myself! Basically... dry joints!! Thanks Again! Richie
