3pens Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Greetings! Just a quick one. I am taking a show to a venue that has a Strand GSX 125 channel desk. The show was plotted on a 500 series running genius pro version 2.8. There are no Effects or Macro's just Cues, Subs and Groups (I might replot some stuff using groups when I get there). Will the show information that I need be read in the GSX?Many thanks Happy April Fools day 3pens
spotblaster Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 It can be done but you will lose your groups. There is a Strand program called "Showport". This basically converts the strand show file (ssf) into ASCII form that can be edited (if necessary) using a text editor such as notepad. Once you have edited the converted file you can convert it back into an ssf using Showport that the GSX will read. I have not tested backwards conversion using the latest version of Showport but certainly the early ones worked. It can be downloaded from the "Software Archive" of the www.strandlight.com page. The converted file can be tested using the GSX offline editor. This will have the name strand.ssf which is the only filename the GSX understands. The GSX OLE will run on Windows XP under a Virtual PC running DOS. (It should also run under the QEMU DOS environment that is mentioned elsewhere in these pages in connection with running the Geniuspro OLE under Windows XP. I have not tried this). A certain amount of trial and error seems to be necessary to get it to work. It does not seem to be an exact science. Good luck. Spotblaster.
Just Some Bloke Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 It can be done but you will lose your groups. No great problem as the GSX doesn't do groups anyway!
JMC Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 No great problem as the GSX doesn't do groups anyway! yyyyees.... It's 500 > GSX, I think thats why he was saying groups would be lost :P
Just Some Bloke Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I do apologise. I thought he meant converting them to ASCII amd back would lose the groups! Sorry.
3pens Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 Fantastic, Many Thanks! In future I will add the GSX OLE to my arsenal of OLE's Much apreciated!
