jsweet Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Hi, I have been running a mobile disco for a while now and I have a 7 year olds disco coming up. I have thought of buying a fog machine for this gig but I was wondering how much a 1 litre bottle of fog juice will last on a 700watt 2500 cu.ft./min machine? cheers jsweet
zonino Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 long lasting smoke fluid?fast dissipating smoke fluid? its going to depend on the fluid being used... you could always buy a hazer instead
jsweet Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 yeah I suppose I could, but they are usually more expensive. Just using normal fog fluid. (as you are probably aware, I am not very educated in the fog fluid area!)
gareth Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Also depends on how much air movement there is in the room in which you're using it (extract fans running, doors open, etc.) and how heavy you are with your use of the machine (the odd little trickle every few minutes to keep up a light haze in the room, or a big blast every minute or so for a real pea-souper). Basically, you're asking 'how long is a piece of string'.
jsweet Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 Yeah sorry I am being a bit vague, I'd guess I would use "the odd little trickle every few minutes "
slipstream Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 If I were costing a gig, I would assume about half a bottle per night, probably less in reality - you need a squirt every so often not heavy fog Sam

gnomatron Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 crazy... half a bottle a night is a good rule of thumb. Take a full one to the gig and you ought to be ok. (a year to go through a litre? our nightclub venue goes through that in a night. so does our thirsty wee hazer.)
beware Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I've had my small SoundLAB smoke machine (£30 on special from Maplins) for about 3 years. Light (Disco only) use. I've only bought one 1L bottle of fluid. It gets used about once a month on average.
paulears Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Come on people - this is rather pointless. Like asking how many mpg you get in your car, and ignoring that some people drive flat out, foot on the floor, others go to the shops with the choke auto-engaged, others drive at 56mph with a light foot, others have a v8 under the bonnet with a big 4x4 body and others have a microengined two seater. I can get through a ltr per machine one week, and have the next ltr last 6 weeks - it simply depends how much smoke, and how long for. Unless somebody actually has figures for fluid consumption based on consumption plotted against output density, this is all subjective and meaningless.
Denimheaven Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Depends how long it takes the 7 year olds to choke!
jsweet Posted April 7, 2007 Author Posted April 7, 2007 Yeah, the fog machine came and I bought 5 litres of fluid, I've used it quite alot (just experimenting) and the level does seem to hardly go down at all :P I'll just keep it on until one of the kids complain! :D
PYROmaster Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 That sounds fun!! But, I did a disco for the same age group on sunday and I was not allowed to use my smoke machine because of their age and Health and Saftey, and stuff, can't remember what now but it was a very good reason and anyway, smoke and 7 year olds, not really much point they wont notice that much, they enjoyed the party as much as if there was smoke... in conclusion I would say if you have to put a trickle on when the atmosphere is thin... Just my rambling experience :P
