pavilion1983 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Hi Please help Our Strand 520i has just come back in with no VGA Output and the desk has power but nothing works has anyone every experienced this our is it as a fear a motherboard issue??? Thanks ;)
Jammie300 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 What have you tried? Have you tried different monitors etc. The simple things Not saying that you haven't but just checking Im not familiar with the desk myself but its best trying the simpelst things first Jammie300
Gareth A Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Have you opened the desk and checked the card is still sat correctly.? Does the desk boot at all or does nothing work at all. Do either of the VGA connectors work? As a lighting hire company, I take it you dont have anyone in your company who has more experience with the desks? Who do you normally direct customers too.? could be worth giving them a bell yourself.
pavilion1983 Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 hi thanks for postingsorry I should have been more clear ;) our engineers have tried the normal stuff cards cables monitors we suspect the hard drive and I was wondered if any one else had had this problem, white lights strand expert suggested the psu but we already tested that please let me knowthanks
johnhuson Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I think we need to clear something up, having re-read your original post and subsequent replies I'm a little confused. Are you saying that it's just the VGA outputs that are not workinng or the whole desk? I'm by no means a Strand expert, but I'm confused as to what your actual problem is? I can't see how a failed hard drive can effect only the monitor outputs, surely if it has failed then the rest of the desk doesn't work. Your original post implies a monitor output problem but then goes on to imply the whole desk isn't working?? Some clarification of your exact problem will probably yield some more useful answers.
JMC Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 When the machine is powered on, wait for about 30 seconds and see if anything comes up very faintly on the right hand LCD screen, it should give the CS Code version (which is different from the OS version, I think) and the build date. If this appears on the screen (albeit faintly) then the system is booting up, and you just can't see anything on the monitor! This would point to a video fault rather than a hard drive/serious fault. It should be 30 secs to a minute before you see anything on the screen, so be patient!
pavilion1983 Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 Hi thanks for your replies desk powers up to the point that the lcd's on the desk stay a pale blue colour and there is no vga out put. also there is no cs code that I can see the only reason we suspect the hd is because it seems to be making odd noises I really apperaciate the replies so please if you have a suggestion please post thanks
Kazeja Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Hmmmmm. Don't recollect this recent event, however.... A few questions to help diagnose the fault. Do you get any audible error beeps?Do you get any normal powerup features? eg bios, memory tests etc appear on the screen?Does "numlock" work on the pc keyboard? Is the processor fully seated in it's socket? Do you have one or two monitors? If one, have you plugged it into the correct output. Even if the hard drive fails, you should still get the standard DOS powerup screen ending with unable to find operating system and numlock will still work on the keyboard. Hopefully the answers to the above will help in further fault diagnosis. Please advise answers ASAP.
JMC Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 A possible cause for blank screen due to faulty hard drive; It has been known for this to bring down one of the PSU rails (short circuit). The PSU will be protecting itself and shutting down the affected rail (most likey to be the +5v). Simple way to establish if this is the fault; open up the desk and unplug the power cable to the hard drive. When you boot up after this, you should then at least get the BIOS etc followed by Unable to find OS as Kazeja has suggested.
matt_beal Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Hi, Back in December just before panto, our 530 displayed the same symptoms. We had the Hard disc replaced...problem solved. The hard disc was corrupt. Matt
pavilion1983 Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 thanks for all your replies I'm away from the desk till Monday so will try all of these trouble shooting methods then ill let you know how it goes (got a funny feeling it going off to white light to be repaired)** laughs out loud ** thanks again
pavilion1983 Posted April 3, 2007 Author Posted April 3, 2007 Hi The desks now sorted The faults seemed to be a Processor connection/RAM Connection/Reset Switch and a Fault CS Card (VGA1 Not Outputting Green) my thoughts DESKS BEEN DROPPED!! The desk can now go out but if anyone knows where I can get a CS card from then please let me know. I've tried white-light and Stage and they informed me that Strand will be making the part again soon. But to keep looking as someone somewhere might have one Thanks again for all you input on this and I hope it might help others who come across the same problem CheersScott
