Al Cain Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 Size of venue?Audience layout?Number of audience?Budget?Equipment already available?Specific requirements from the organisers?Just playback or mics too?If mics, how many, what kind etc? Shopping Centre in Liverpool- Met Quater Audiance Layout will be either side of the catwalk Audiance number- 200Budget £400 - but will be getting sponsorship from companiesEquipment availiable- minimal apart from an ML5000- Not really needed. probarbnly use something like an 01VSpecific reqiuirements are the usalof it being heard and not too obtrousive!Playback and some micsMics would be radio and maximum of 8. - Already sourced Sennheiser wireless ones.

Ben Langfeld Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Only comments are that the Met Quater is quite reverberant, you might want to have a think about some kind of acoustic treatment. Also, think about maybe utilising the balcony structure for hanging speakers (insert obvious statement about checking load rating...blah blah blah) and get them pointed down at the audience.
Pete Alcock Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Alex, I've done a few of these types of things on similarly small budgets. For an audience of 200, four speakers on stands will probably suffice. If you make too much noise, you'll have the shopping centre manager after you. H&S is a potentially big issue unless you can get the catwalk barricaded off. Be mindful of the trip hazards of cables & tripods. RA is essential. ML5000? A small Spirit folio SX would be more appropriate! Other thoughts: If your playback is going to be from CD, make sure you get all the tracks in advance from the stores/fashion house/model agency etc. and compile them all on to one disc. Have a backup of this also. Use a double CD player and advance both as the tracks are played (backup). Nothing worse than having 10 CD's with post-it notes all over them indicating whch track to play. It WILL go horribly wrong if you do this. When the models go out on the catwalk and start enjoying themselves, they can "run out of music" - well worth talking this through with the organiser and see if you need to edit up some extended versions. Modest subs are a usually good idea for fashion shows to give a bit of weight (no need for anything stupid), but if the place is really reverberant, you'll just end up with a boomy mush of sound and complaints. Play that by ear. Can't imagine why you'll need 8 radio mics for a simple fashion show unless the models are all going to start singing, but that'll need careful planning of frequencies. 2-4 - easy, 8 - potential trouble unless they're good ones. Forgive me if I'm teaching Grandma to suck eggs. You did ask for pointers though. All the best, Pete.
