richardc1983 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Can anyone reccomend any decent scanners on the market at the moment., At the moment ive got 2 x geni mojo scan2's the ones with separate colour and gobo wheel, they are starting to get really noisy and rattling and also the wheels are coming out of align so that its not flashing properly. I have messed about with the wheels in side but dont seem to be able to alter them if I alter them they go further out of alignment and gobos then go all over place so ive just put them back to how they were. So if you dont think they can be repaired whats good and out on the market at the moment. Im looking to get 2/ Seen the new SMart ssc-2 scanners in maplins. Are these a step up from the mojo or a step down. Any ideas fellas. Hope your all okay!
richardc1983 Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 AROUND the £200 mark Seen the Smart SSC-2 at £99 each in maplin but dunno what these are like Worried they may be a step down to what ive got, Id like to be able to get them repaired but I dont know anyone who is local in leeds area who could have a look at them.
tom_the_LD Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Well as with most things, the price reflects the quality. So just be careful as if you see something really cheap, it could be rubbish!
saturnx21 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 EVL do some fantastic scanners, and they have just started supplying direct so there prices are 50% less than they used to be! Go to there website:linky These scans are easily on a par if not better than the Martin MX4 but you will have to part with alittle more than £200 for a pair of some decent scans no matter where you go!!! B-)
paulears Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Moderation: QUALITY CONTROL - The moderators have been discussing this topic, and a little investigation shows that you would be more likely to get considered answers on a DJ oriented forum, such as www.mobilediforums.It isn't that we don't want disco equipment style questions, but experience shows that few of our members have knowledge of this kind of kit - where the DJ forums have many people quite knowledgable on these things. Obviously, you can discuss them here if you wish - but each time this kind of thing comes up, few in-depth replies are posted, very often replies consisting of "me too" or guesswork posts
DMX Will Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Have a look at the Acme Winners (also the matching "barrel" version "Rovers"). Both have seperate gobo/colour wheels. They seem to retail at around £130 these days. Have a look here for a DMX guide for DJs, which includes some suggested DJ-designed DMX fixtures.
jayselway Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Had some lamp issues with some editions of the ACME winners - where they were over-running the lamps - a 5H would last around 40 hours in one. Martin do a range called the Mania, which isn't too bad actually - nice effects, and some good stand-alone programs in them too. Not bad on the old £££'s either.
Jamtastic3 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 If you want to get something that you can happily take somewhere to get serviced you need to have equipment that has at least some value to its name. I remember handing over 2 Datamoons in to the service guys - they didn't seem that happy about taking them.
LDODD Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 You can probably get some GLP Junior Scan 2's from Ian at L.E.D in Maidstone. Nice reliable fitting. Used them for years. Should be at around that kind of cost.

musht Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Always quite liked Geni stuff TBH, not lightest or quietest but well designed and built , especially considering price. Big companies will charge too much to be economic on repairs, but as suggested by Paul asking on a more DJ orientated forum should hopefully get someone who can help you in your locality on a more `informal` basis. Smart SSC II is OK but a step down in reality from your Mojo`s , in depth look here: http://www.ukslc.org/forum/index.php?topic=2291.0
paulears Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Moderation: After some thought, we've checked with the other forum and they are happy to promote these kinds of questions, so we'd recommend a visit to www.mobiledjforums.com to find out this kind of info. They seem a useful source of dj type info.
