u_dakka Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 My Am Dram club needs itself sorted out for make-up and I was wondering what book people would recommend for advice on stage make-up (they dont specialise in any particular style or genre, so it would have to be a fairly comprehensive book). As well as that we obviously need to buy a basic kit - any recommendations (under £100 for the both). So if there was a good kit that came with a comprehensive set of instruction as to creating a wide variety of effects that would be a good option. In general, help!! (This is not my area of expertise at all).Thanksandy
peternewman Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Not my area of expertise either, but there are quite a few books listed in the makeup section of the useful books topic, here.
Brian Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Screenface or Charles Fox will be able to help you out.
paulears Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I've always found am dram societies rather unwilling to supply make-up. Mainly because the type and quantity is personal to the user - and the stuff is so darn expensive that providing it out of subs is not appreciated. The blokes usually scrounge theirs, and the stuff to get it off, too! The girls sometimes share, but often refuse to, so any attempt to buy a decent kit, and keep it updated is a job nobody will want - especially when the top turn finds one of the chorus has used the last spot cover, or wrinkle disguiser.
Ynot Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I've always found am dram societies rather unwilling to supply make-up.Just what I was going to say. If you're still keen to start a kit, though, go with the BARE basics, and cover general foundations, eyeliners and powders, and mark the stuff somehow - because some of it WILL go walkies, believe me. It's not my area of expertise, either, though I have at sparse occasions had the need to apply to myself and others... But usually what works best is to have the make-up team (if they exist) to decide on the basics and publish a list of what's required per show and tell the cast to go buy it!!
