According to the Children in Performances ACT 1968 Children should not be allowed into our venue until 10am and have to leave before 10pm. We have a dance group that want to come in before 9am.

Does anybody work in a Venue where you enforce this Act and how do you get arounfd it

Sorry if this is in wrong forum area but didn't know where else tp post it

Cheers

If it is the law then you don't get round it you tell the dance school that this is the law.

Is 'in the building' the exact wording? (as opposed to on stage, back stage) as this may assist you.

Thanx for quick reply

We do enforce it, but the Dance School perform at other Venue's and that they perform at these locations at 8.30am, I was just wondering how these venue's get round it.

As you can imagine they are not happy with us for they would like to get in at 8am.

Exact wording is "place of performance" which could either mean the whole venue or just the stage

Clarifies the situation they cant perform until 10am (under 12 and non broadcast event)

Also you can separate the Children from the Adults.

The Teachers and adult helpers and adult dancers can arrive at their chosen times, the Children should arrive at their lawful times. That way the dads and the stage hands and the musos can get ready and rehearse early, then the children can arrive to a prepared venue. Also the children can leave at their times and the adult helpers still be ripping out.

Hi Ron, and welcome to the BR.

Your best bet is to check the current legislation with Staffs County Council - they will have a Child protection Services (CPS) Officer, as should all County councils. (I can put you on to the Warks CPSO if you need to track down their counterpart).

they'll be able to quote you chapter and verse and arrange any possible exemptions IF necessary.

I've usually found that the chaperones the local authority have licenced are the one who decide this. In most of the cases I've had contact with, the venue have provided the facilities for a fee, and the licences are between the 'company' and the council. If the person in charge of the kids is happy, why interfere?
