tom_the_LD Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hi there Basically, we could possibly be upgrading from our Sirius 24 to something else. We only have 24 ways of dimming although this MIGHT increase in future. The desk only needs to control generics and I don't think we have ever had any movers or scrollers but you never know it might happen. What would you guys recommend. Budget wise I think maybe £2,500 max. Thanks for all your assistance EDIT: Needs to have a Q-stack runable via a GO button and the ability to create effects then run them at the push of a button if you know what I mean! (like the effects section on the 24 but more advanced) and all the usual shabang!
Ben Langfeld Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Your best bet would be one of the frog range, probably the Fat Frog. It's within your budget, can control 24 or 48 ways of dimming plus 12 fixtures (giving you plenty of room for expansion). Also, it will be fairy familiar to you after using a sirius. They're very popular in schools and many small venues thanks to their ease of use.
Dj Dunc Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 We have a frog and I love it, very easy to use, and good interface. Try having a play on the phantom frog (available on the Zero88 website), which is an OLE for all the frog range.
tom_the_LD Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 I may be being very ignorant and I apologise but what is an OLE ;)
James Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Off Line Editor Typicaly a PC version of the console software that can be used to familiarise oneself with the user interface and build/patch/edit shows in situations where you cannot access the desk itself. These can then be saved to {typicaly} floppy disks which can be loaded into the desk when needed. James
Psychedelic Theatre Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I'd also suggest a Fat Frog, they're nice and easy to use and also give you some versatility if you do want to use some movers at a later date ;)
peternewman Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Off Line Editor. A piece of software that allows you to perform some or all of the functions of a real desk without being in front of one. Edit: I'm clearly far too slow, but I've just found the wiki page which already exists, updated it and linked to it! So in summary look at the wiki, then Google, then ask. ;)
peter Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 If the Fat Frog is too much for your budget, take a look at the Jester, which will be very familiar to a Sirius user. It comes in 12/24 or 24/48 formations, so you can future proof yourself should you wish. Show file storage is onto USB, and it supports a monitor (with a normal PC style VGA connector, so any computer monitor will do) which makes things a whole lot clearer than the Sirius ;) Jester.
LeeStoddart Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Another vote for the Frog range. Either basic Frog or Fat Frog would suit your needs. If all you ever use is some generics and scrollers the basic Frog will be fine. If you think you might use some movers at some stage then go for the Fat Frog. Good luck.
JimWebber Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 At the risk of being predictable, I'll point you in the direction of the Frog range too!I'm not sure of prices, but I imagine a Fat Frog will come within the £2.5K budget - Thus future proofing your desk to a degree. Alternatively a Frog and some extra dimmer channels? Jim
AndyJones Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 OR maybe wait a few months, I hear rumours of a new frog range?
tom_the_LD Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 Thanks for your suggestions guys. I was thinking about a FatFrog. They look good ;) and they have frogger on  Any idea what the new frogs will be like?
peter Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 If you'd like to see the new frogs for yourself, we'll be at the Frankfurt Messe next week, or alternatively at AC North in Leeds in May. Alternatively, contact one of our dealers for more information and pricing. Wiki Article
tom_the_LD Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 Anything closer to a little place named 'Luton' (Dunstable is where I live but you MAY have heard of Luton). It is about 30 mins away from London.
