brummer Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Well, I've searched through here, as well as on Google for information on road gigs, and I've found some useful information but not what Im looking for. How would someone land a gig touring with a show? I'm in the U.S. so it might be slightly different over here. I've got some experience with lights, more experience with sound, and lots of experience with electronics in general but I know ultimately if I did get a job touring I'd end up doing grunt work like unloading trucks etc. Particularly, I'm interested in one of the summer touring concert festival events, like Warped Tour, or Coachella or the like, since I am a college student in the Fall & Winter. I assume the production company in charge of the tour is the one who staffs it, but I can't even find names of production companies that do some of the shows I'm researching. Any/all advise is welcome.
woody74 Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 My only experience with this has been: you get the job if you do the job better than the person they already have. Touring companies are very inbred, and as much as this will sound negative, unless you have something really special to offer, given your availability (and lack thereof), you are better off getting on with your local union to be a hired hand on shows. Here is a previous thread about being an extra for the load ins and outs. -w
brummer Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 I do lots of nonunion work during school, unfortunately, while I was on the call list for my local IATSE union over the summer, they have so little work I didn't get a single call till late september/october when I was back at school.
