Neon strip looking effects...

I'm considering looking to use an effect, but for the life of me can't find what they're called, thus not able to search the usual suspects for a hire option!

Soooo... HELP! ;)

These effects are the long (2 or 3 metre plus) thin strips of controllable medium which look a little like neon, come in many colours, but are NOT neon, as they can be fast-switched and (possibly) dimmed.

They seem quite common on TV sets these days, especially in multiple arrays.

I've looked for laser-line, neon options and a few other possibles, but so far no luck.

Anyone know what I mean?

I think you mean EL-Wire - Electro-luminescent wire

Alternatively, the LED ropelight Wavicle has!

Hmmmm...

Actually, no - not this at all, (though it DOES look intriguing - know anyone that rents the stuff?).

The items I had in mind were thin but rigid strips, not flexible like this stuff....

Sounds like some form of LED fixture then.

- I've used 1m LED tubes that sound similar - but those were a fairly big diameter, maybe 2-3 inches.

Maybe try out LED ropelight anyway - it should be able to do what you ask, even if it's not the exact fixture.

EL-Wire looks really cool on TV, but it's not really bright enough for live use.

Would you be refering to Neon Cold Cathode Tubes?

Commonly used in PC modding, car styling etc etc...

They look like neon tubes, come in a variety of lengths and can be switched......not sure about dimmed?

Sorry, guys - no-one's hit me with anything that looks like I mean - though there are some nice looking products out there!! ;)

I'm racking brains trying to think of a TV show they've been used on so I can Google a pic.....

What sort of show are we talking about - something like X-Factor where it's more of a performance, or a Des n Mel scenario?
It's gonna be a music show - may have been an X-Factor or Pop Idol sorta thing. I can see the set in my mind's eye, but blowed if I can figger out which show!! Dark background, loads of these thin blue lines in parallel around a show logo in a similar effect....

Seen it recently in a slightly different, but still effective use....

Driving me bonkers, this!! ;) :)
