jexjexjex
Hi all. I've had a quick squint around the various PAT related theads and couldn't find a specific on this one. I've been asked to PAT test a pair of Teatro Talento 1200 followspots and I've never tested anything with a separate ballast before. Is this something that can be done with a standard tester (Seaward PAT 1000 type derivative)? Is it just a case of link the whole unit together as normal (13A plug to Ballast to Spot) and test it as a single unit? Or, as I'm beginning to think, is it a csae of saying, "Nope, you'll need to get a speciallist for this"? As ever, all answers gratefully accepted. Joe P.S. - Mods, if this would be better in the Lighting or Electrical sections, please feel free to move as necessary.
Don Allen
Some of the things to consider when working out how to PAT test this are:Protective earth needs to checked on ballast and body of follow spot.Lead from ballast to follow spot needs very good visual inspection.Leakage test of overall follow spot may show up any problems in the ballast. You are looking at reducing the risk of harm to the operator so look at heat management such as follow spot handles.Go to the manufacturers website and look for any PAT testing guides. I found out the other day that Jands have a Tech Bulletin for PAT testing dimmers. Hope that helps. Don
