Tomo
get a piece of card (suitable fire proofed of course )and place it in the colour frame furthest from the lamp, voila an instant dimmable follow spot ,Given that it's a tungsten halogen lamp, a real dimmer is preferable to a mechanical dimmer. Those things run very hot, and the lamp life is not great. So it's best to turn it off when not in use, to save lamp hours and allow the thing to cool. Not going to comment on the brightness, as I've no idea how large your space is. Jivemaster
Look also at cheaper old analogue dim packs and create a remote for siting by the follow spot handle with a 10k pot and a press switch, many 0 - 10v dimmers will supply enough 12-15volts to drive an analogue desk. --Its how they were meant to work! Are you competent to return this ebay.co.uk item 250092366716 to condition for use. Its a 4 chan 10a dimmer pack with analogue controller. Reverse engineer the controller to get the circuit and build a pair of single channel controllers. fit the pack somewhere usefull and use Terralec cable PC150SIGto send controlled power to the lamp AND 0 - 10 control back to the pack. Your starter for 99p!
casey_cole
Alright, thanks guys. That's given us some more options to play with. On the subject of card dimming - we haven't got any moving gel-frames on this (yet). CC
Jivemaster
The NJD 8000s controller seems to be well represented on ebay. It has 4 channels of 10anp rating and you can access the dimmer board inside (din plug I think) to take 15volts from it and send 0 - 10v back in from a control pack you make fro the handle of the follow spot. themadhippy
just another off the wall idea, but I've often thought about using a footpedal to oparate the spot dimmer, might make those dim, iris in and change colour moments a bit easier.
J Pearce
I think that's on your plan of 'tech paridise' which is still to be found in a control room you used to work in.
