jfreak53
I currently am using MediaShout with a seperate video mixer by Focus. I have tried using the chroma key in the mixer with a colored background to display Bible text over the video in the mixer with no avail as of yet. What I want to do is display Bible versus on top of the person who is speaking that I have on screen, I've seen a lot of churches do this as a blue bar at the bottom, but I can't seem to duplicate this, is there another program that they are using or another way to set it up? Thanks in advance.
simploerob
yes there is. give people a bit more info on the visual mixer. are you trying to put the verses at the bottom on a colour, or just the words over the preacher with no colour? simon
dunk_1984
Easy Worship will let you overlay words on video, However you have to feed the video into the computer via compatible capture card or firewire. However the chroma key should work, have you tried using different colours? and are you sure it is set up to use the right colours?
lukemh
I certainly know at least two churches who currently do this. pm your details to me and I will put you in contact. I am sure they will be happy to talk to you about it. Luke
jfreak53
Thanks for the responses. The mixer that I'm using is this one: http://www.focusinfo.com/solutions/catalog.asp?id=10 It's the MX-4 model. And what I wanted to do is put the scripture at the bottom on a color bar. Currently we just switch to the Bible verse screen from MediaShout and take the Pastor off screen but I would like not to have to take him off screen. I have tried quite a few times the chroma key effect, with blue, black, red, and yellow. But it doesn't seem to work. It get's rid of most of the bg color that I select, but there are parts that it won't erase, so it leaves the video like flaky or with noise you could say, little dots of that color. This is mostly around the text that it does this. And my text is normally large when I do tests on it.
Tomo
You need an almost perfect keying colour to get Chromakey to work properly. Two colours that work well are Green and Blue - make sure the part of the image to remove is a perfect colour, and the part you want to keep is completely different colours. On normal-quality vision mixers, the keying software often doesn't handle sharp edges and detail well - heck, even the ones used in professional TV generally don't manage hair very well! One option would be to place black text in a yellow box at the bottom, with a solid blue above (for the pastor).Key out the blue, and there you go!That should work better than trying to display the text straight onto the live shot - you'll notice that it's rare for TV to overlay text without some form of background. Alternatively, you could avoid chromakey completely and just use a partial wipe from the bottom. Put the text at the top of the source, choose a vertical wipe, and do a part crossfade until the text is visible below the pastor.
James
jfreak53 Why do you want to co a chroma key. I assume you are making things simple for yourself and the text is white? If so do a luminance key rather than chroma key. It's still keying off the fill which is going to look fairly amateur however its the best you are going to get without doing it professionally (and on a professional budget) Oh and Tomo - I wouldn't be so dismissive about modern cso techniques. I would agree that bad cso is still noticable however I would guess there is a lot of live keying going on that you don't notice because it is done well. ;) James
Gabz
Hey, it depends what version of Media Shout you use but I know that with the latest version you can feed your video (out of your vision mixer) into your computer and use Media Shout to overlay your text on-top of it (and take the output of your computer directly to your projector). This will bypass any trouble you are having with keying on a external vision mixer. The only drawback with this approach is that getting your video into and out of your computer will introduce a small amount of latency depending on the speed of your computer. As mentioned in previous posts you may have more luck getting a cleaner key using a luma rather than chroma key. Its also worth checking your text and background colours in Media Shout as well as disabling any outline or drop shadow effects on the text. Hope that helps. tonymaslen
Just as a thought, are you sure that this is being done as a key effect, and not as a graphic that is being mixed across the bottom of the screen?
