Angelfish
I've been asked to find or make two pregnancy bumps (about 8-9 months) for a production of Be My Baby in a couple of weeks, can anyone suggest a good method of making something like this? I have looked to buy some, I know they exist as I've worn one once, but I've had no luck. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks, Beki <_<
the kid
I went on the hunt for a fake bump, try national child birth trust and local midwives. I was told by NCBT it would be £200 a week. Making one is fairly simple, which is what we did in the end.here has a water fillable one.
w/robe
I would encourage you not to use a water filled one, or anything that in any way approximates the weight of a real pregnancy. There is a reason why so many pregnant women suffer back problems. If your Director is keen that it is the correct weight, and they ofter are these days, give him 2 stone of potatoes and ask him if he would like them hung round his neck. Then suggest acting instead. I normally build them on a snug fitting base, either a leotard or a T-shirt with a strap between the legs to stop it riding up. Build up the bump with layers of wadding cut in concentric ovals with the edges chamfered. Catch these down to the base then cover with another stretch layer (lycra or cotton jersey) then have the actress wear a snug fitting T-shirt over the top of the whole thing. While you should pad the breasts unless you have a completely flat chested actress you may not want to do this as you then have to pad the stomach even more to make it stand out.The more layers of clothing worn over the top the more natural it will look.Unless you are going for comic effect keep the bump as small as possible as everyone in the audience will know that you do not have pregnant actresses so, how ever good the padding, it will always be someone on stage with a cushion up their jumper.
