Putting a rig out to tender

I left school in 2000, and was also responsible for our school lighting, as nobody else knew how to run the system.

When it came to the re fit in my last year (4 months before I left, go figure) I was asked to contribute to the new lighting system, I speced what fixtures were needed along with apropriate dimming and cable runs, I also had the final word on where the LX bars were placed.

The spec was then handed out to a consultant and designer for checking and then handed to several companys for the competition of providing it.

The school and company that intstalled it were more than happy to go with what I wanted.

I also trained the new lighting crew upon my leaving.

I am still asked to help on several occasions and also provide lessons and hands on workshops 7 years down the line.

You will be suprised that in this day and age pupils do have a say in what goes on in and arround the school, cos lets face it the youth of today when it comes to technical theatre are quite bright.

All the technical tasks at my school, LX, Projection, Noise, backstage ect were carried out my very knoledge able pupils, the guy in charge of FOH PA was a 14 yr old who was red hot at what he did, he could mix a 8 piece band in his sleep.

Now I know noise boys that have been doing it 20 years and still cant mix a band for toffee ** laughs out loud **

I'm not dismissing what you have to say based on the fact that you've only recently joined the BR, but once you've been around for more than a couple of days I think you'll probably be eating those words. I'll not deny that there are some young contributors to the BR who clearly show a lot of promise for bright futures in the industry - but sometimes it seems as though there's some sort of equivalent to Newton's third law that applies to the quality of posts around here, and that for every bright spark there's also a complete and utter numpty ...

Yeah im not going to dissagree with you cos your totaly right there are some kids who just think they know it all and bluff there were through, but then again there are some adults that do this also.

I was refering to youngsters I have come across in general in real life not just on an internet forum and most of the time you can tell the trully gifted and knoledged from the know it all bluffers, I will not entertain those that think there gods gift to technical theatre and just try to make out they are bright, when in practice they struggle to even do the most basic of things like calculate electrical loads.

Ive been viewing the BR for about 18 months but have only recently joined.
