cedd Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Hi all, I've seen circuits advertised that give closing contact outputs from a DMX input, and will also drive servo's. The question is, anybody know of any circuits that I can build myself? You know the score, poor student without the cash to spend on an "off the shelf" model. Also an electronic engineer student so I have all I need to build one (and probably design it, but if somebody else has already done the leg work....). One thing in particular I'm thinking about is for when I work with a big local choir. We have DMX throughout the truss for LED fixtures, and it would be really nice to get a servo-operated camera up there. Also for other general bits and peices it would be useful to have a decoder with some easy to use outputs. Any ideas would be great!
David A Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 If you google dmx512 you'll find heaps of specialised sites.
Pete Alcock Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Cedd, I've used Milford Instruments boards. Well made and perfectly straightforward to use. Milford Board Good luck, Pete.
ajh51 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I've built the Demux described here http://www.hoelscher-hi.de/hendrik/english/dimmer.htm and it works a treat. Cost about a tenner I guess (although I did have some bits and pieces already - XLR sockets, dip switches etc) Loads of other ideas on his site though - plus more if you can read German (or cope with the google translation) Andy.
ben.suffolk Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 The Relay interface I designed is online. DMX Relay You can have upto 3 relays, although it would be pretty simple to extend the circuit to add more. I have built other DMX projects that I have not yet put up, but I might be able to help if you have something specific in mind. Regards Ben
dbuckley Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 As the above projects show, the hardware to work with DMX512 is trivial, its the software that takes skill. Some projects publish, others dont, but one of the most referenced sources for code that works is Kelly Kohls. If you want bit-bang DMX512 transmission, and dimming routines, have a look on my webpage, address in sig.
