Bobbsy Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I've moved this topic into the Video and Projection Forum since that is a much more appropriate spot. I suggest that before going much further though, it's worth the OP using the "Search" facilty for "Vision Mixer". There have been numerous threads discussing makes, models and prices. Don't expect anything super cheap though. A vision mixer is a fairly complex piece of technology to make since it has to synchronise your two picture sources before it can mix between them. Most have the bits you consider "flashy" because, once the picture is stored in a synchroniser, doing the fancy bits is just a matter of software. Bob
dunk_1984 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Something like the Edirol V-4 would probably be about right. https://www.globalmediapro.com/av/index.cgi probably get it cheaper elsewhere, but simple 4 channel mixer
five_pin_xlr Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 theres some software out called EASYWORSHIP, that you can do that with. Its great, we use it for the words at church, and you press a clear button and the text disappears, and you can just be left with the video below, or something like that. Try the trial by searching google for EASYWORSHIP Bonus of this is, all you need is svideo or something like that, and a decent graphics card on pc with a stablish pc, pentium 4 or something in that range. another great thing is you can insert a dvd and run it from the exact time you want it! via a time in and time out selection. hth
Cougar Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Will easy worship allow a fade between a DVD and a live camera? The version I used last was a bit out of date so it may have changed but you never used to be able to. As an aside Easy Worship while in my opinion being one of the best ways of showing song words is a real pain to set up and trouble shoot when used with video (although is very reliable once it is working its just getting to that point thats the problem).
dunk_1984 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Easy Worship, Yes this would be ideal. However ideally connecting your camera via firewire would be best as a computer is more likely to already have this on board, but then again that depends on location of PC, Camera and any other kit being used.(as firewire has a limited range). Admittedly you can't exactly fade between, you can cut between or fade to black. As for specs for it, I've been running it on a Athlon 1800+ , 256MB RAM, 2MB + 8MB Graphics. so specs aren't everything.
Pete McCrea Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I'd expect a larger frame delay with using a PC. When using a live camera, the effect will be to knock the lipsync out. Anything over around 3 frames (where 1 frame = 1/25th of a second) will start to become obvious. Speaking with the guys from Dataton that created Watchout, they at one point were suffering from 8 Frames Plus. This is now down to around 2-3 frames. Add in any delay in the projector, and the lips could be well out of sync. Panasonic MX50's, and I'd hope the Edirol V4 should be around 1 frame.
gnomatron Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Something like the Edirol V-4 would probably be about right. https://www.globalmediapro.com/av/index.cgi I paid 200 quid more than that for my V4 and it was worth every penny. (though I would rather have the extra 200 quid admittedly, bah!). You ought to be able to hire a V4 for 50 quid a day or less. Arkaos VJ could do what you want if you had enough capture devices (USB or firewire capture cards, or firewire cameras) and a suitable laptop/PC. A vision mixer is the cheapest solution overall, however. I got a Panasonic MX-10 on Ebay for 50 pounds, it's a 2-channel mixer that would allow you to fade between one live camera and a DVD. The Panasonic WJAVE-5 turns up cheap quite often too. How many cameras are you actually fading between?
