National Student Drama Festival Workshop Programme

I am the Training Manager for the National Student Drama Festival, and for the festival this year, I would like to extend the programme to include scenic construction, stage management techniques, wardrobe and make up skills.

NSDF07 is taking place in the North Yorkshire seaside resort of Scarborough from Thursday 29th March to Wednesday 4th April 2007.

The technical team consists of around 80 student volunteers from a variety of backgrounds who come for the unique experience to work and learn together. In ten days they build two theatres from empty rooms, run performance venues, support visiting companies, attend workshops and get involved with fringe events. Workshops give them a chance to learn about certain aspects of theatre in more detail. Most involve a mixture of theoretical and practical work and are run either by visiting professionals or by members of the technical crew.

We are seeking new theatre companies, private companies, and individuals that might be able to spare a day or half day to hold a workshop session for the festival, in addition to our regular attendees, such as Avolites, Le Maitre, Martin Professional and Stage Electrics. We would like to add basic set construction techniques, prop making, make up (stage blood and special effects) and basic wardrobe techniques to the extensive lighting and sound programme, to cater for all interests within the technical crew, and provide opportunities that could potentially encourage young people into the theatre industry as a career.

We would love to hear from anyone that thinks that they may be able to give us some time. In return we can offer advertising in the festival brochure, and trade display stands in the main venue.

Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me via PM or my email address on my profile.

Many thanks

For those of you interested in joining the volunteer technical crew, the application form is now available in downloadable format from www.nsdftech.org.uk and going to the messageboard section.

Many thanks
