Robertwatson
Hi, Could someone please advise me on what DMX controller would be suitable to install in a school that is basic so kids can use, works with led par's, normal dimmer packs and possibly for future some movers?????? Thank you for your time
Just Some Bloke
Hi Robert, Can I suggest you start by looking at the FAQs at the top of the page. There is a section entitledWhat lighting equipment should I buy for my schooland the first link is about small DMX lighting boards. If you don't find what you want there, come back and give us more info on why that previous thread was not suitable.
JimWebber
Robert,I would suggest a Zero88 Fat Frog, although not entirely "Basic" - (Who defines basic???) It is still a simple enough desk to use, and also has plenty of scope for expansion to up to 12 moving fixtures. If movers are not a massive priority, I would perhaps go for a Frog, or an Alcora/Elara type thingy (Again all Zero 88) Unfortunately as with all things, you need to take into acount all sorts, such as. 1. Number of control Channels2. Experience/Ability of operators3. Budget4. Budget5. Budget6. Bud... HTH Jim
lightjocky
yep zero88 desks fatfrog/leapfrog are ideal for school we own a fatfrog and have just brought a leapfrog for school they rearly are "easy" desks to work on I taught myself to use it in about an hour (including movers)it is good however.....the reason we went from a fatfrog to a leapfrog is taht it only restrics you to a 12 intels/smoke or scrollersas our school owns 10 scrollers 2 smoke machines and 6 movers we went for the leapfrog to get 24 movers so it depends on how many extras you need...also as mentioned BUDGETthe fatfrog is about: £2175and the leap frog about: £2499 (from zero88 direct hope this helps jamie
David A
I can recommend the Botex/Showtec 24/48 at around 250 euro you don't have to be too precious about it.In 10 minutes you can have a student recording scenes and chases and it has all the basics you will need.I have found them totally reliable. zonino
I seem to remember that the fat frog can control more than 12 movers, though I stand free to be corrected.... peter?
mumbles
The fatfrog can control 12 set of addresses in the ML section, and then upto 48 channels on the sliders. The next step up is a leapfrog, which has 24 fixtures in the ML section, but is still only 1 universe, and 48 sliders. HTH
GreatBigHippy
Thw fatfrog is what we use at my school and I find it to be great! If you own more than 12 movers that you use on a regular basis then let me know when you have a job opening would ya?!The frog is easy enough that even the less technical of the staff can get some lights up and set a scene or two without panicing and the kids pick this stuff up very easily! Also the ability to save to floppy disc is very useful if you have a shows that need backing up.Check out the stage electrics site if you are buying soon as they have a great deal on with the frog at the moment. Free usb DMX interface and free software! Can't be bad... As another suggestion we also have a jester for smaller shows and I find that even easier than the froggy. Its robust, small and takes a usb key! When will they upgrade the frog to include this?!?

When will they upgrade the frog to include this?!?If they do upgrade it, it will only be on the new models, unless you're willing to spend a lot on them updating everything inside the desk that needs it. I have heard some people mention that the new Frog range (april/may 2007) MAY have a usb port, but this is purely rumour, so I'm just waiting to find out.
