peternewman
Hi all, We've recently got an Edirol V4 and having seen the state another one was in, we want to case it and add an extra panel with BNCs on for the video, so the phono connectors on the unit itself don't get damaged. We'll also tidy up the external PSU too. I don't know if I'm going senile, but I could've sworn when I looked into it before you could get standard rack ears for it, and it ended up being a 10" wide item, like a lot of DJ mixers. But I may well be going mad, as all I can find now is this, which is a rack drawer, with presumably holes in the bottom to mount it. I on the other hand like the idea of putting it in a 10" rack case, with a removable lid, and some kind of 10" Unified-D panel with the BNCs on. So I was wondering firstly, am I imagining it, or did they use to make 10" rack ears? Equally does anyone have the shelf thing and could give me some information on how it mounts on there? Has anyone tried making 10" ears for it? The sides have some rather promising looking screws, but I've not yet opened it to check if they do anything crucial too. Assuming I do manage to get it into a 10" case, does anyone sell 10" Unified D panels, or will I have to mangle a standard one? If anyone has got any general tips or alternatives on casing/mounting it I'd be interested to hear. Thanks in advance, PN
dunk_1984
Custom rack? I think when I was looking into this I was going to mount it in a 19" case, but have you tried contacting casing/rack companies to see if they can make a custom 10"? and the shelving.... peternewman
I've not tried custom companies yet, no doubt they'll be able to as it would be a custom job. :P However as ever cost is a big factor, probably over looks and time, this is just for a society at University, so if we can same 50/100 pounds by me spending a bit of time in my garage with a hacksaw and file then so be it. dunk_1984
Garage and hacksaw sounds good to me. or would a 19" be acceptable with a shelf? as this is more mainstream and probably cheaper, ebay and all
peternewman
Perhaps, although that does make it rather bulky, so I'd prefer not to. I'm fairly certain I've seen 10" rack cases in places like CPC (although I was certain I'd seen standard rack brackets for the V4 :P ). But I guess otherwise do horrible things to a rack shelf. So is there anyone out there with a V4 shelf, or who can tell me a bit more about how it mounts onto the shelf?
gnomatron
I've never seen rack ears for a V-4 - though post here if you find them, I have a V4 and rack mounting it might be quite cool! try http://www.vjforums.com, most of the folk who post on their own V4s :P I got a very good flightcase for my V4 from deepvisual, http://www.deepvisual.com/, but you'd have to heavily mod it to do what you want with it. It's a good option f you decide not to go down the racking route.
